I guess that the first thing that I need to say is never, never, never write a story just to be popular. No one, not even me with my huge ego, will ever be popular enough on this site to sake their drive to be ore popular. Writing the stories that you think people want to read is producing a product, not writing a piece of art. Write the stories that engage you, the ones that run around in your head, screaming to be told. If you put enough effort into any work, those who read it will know that you crafted it from the heart.

When you go to write a story, remember that you are creating an entire narrative. Plan, plan, plan! Know exactly what is going to happen in your story before you sit down to write it! As the author, you should be the last person to be surprised by where the story takes you.

Read the story aloud to yourself when you're done writing a paragraph or sentence. Read the words that are there, not the words you think are there. If they are hard to read or sound wrong, then the readers will be confused by them.

Find an editor and/or a pre-reader to help you. Our minds omit our own mistakes, and another set of eyes can find obvious grammar errors that we've trained ourselves to miss.
