Twilight Sparkle is Torn Between · 1:15pm Aug 25th, 2015

Rest assured, Sisters In All but Blood will conclude shortly.

Echoing the title of this post, Twilight is torn between loyalty and trust. And when you are on the spot with your mentor and teacher, who also happens to be the absolute ruler of your country, it is hard to write.

Working on Sisters in All but Blood · 9:19pm Aug 8th, 2015

I'm progressing on the climax of the novella. But. I'm. Not. There. Yet. Getting it right, and not jumping the shark, is taking time.

Meanwhile, take a look at my new super-short Prevaricator.

Chapter 10 Published before Chapter 9 in Sisters in All But Blood · 6:41am Aug 2nd, 2015

<sigh>
No excuse, but I was publishing from my phone and in the glare and I selected the wrong chapter. I had planned a 10AM release for both Saturday and Sunday, but I published immediately when I saw my mistake.

Since my followers are the most likely to see this blog, I apologize to you who had faith in me most of all. I left you confused and am sorry.

I have now published the missing chapter 9. It'll all make more sense now, I promise!

Remuneration · 5:15pm Aug 1st, 2015

My friends and Mother have expressed surprise at the volume of writing I've been doing without being paid. My current rate over the last 80 days is 2 1/2 novels per year.

An author wants to be paid. Words completed equal money. It allow us to make a living doing something we love.

SF Rules Apply · 7:36am Jul 12th, 2015

Since I am at heart a science fiction writer, I suppose this makes sense, but here goes. I approach writing in the MLP universe with the same rules I would writing about aliens in a science fiction novel. A writer wants to depict a story's aliens so that they render in the reader's mind as not human. But how can you do this? How would you write a story from a dolphin's point of view, or more pointedly, from a horse's point of view?

Why not something challenging this time? · 4:12am Jul 8th, 2015

I'm taking up the gauntlet again, but the treatment for a Twilight Sparkle story with a deadline of Saturday evening already masses 950 words. Looking at the content as the cast of characters, Sisters in All but Blood may end up being a novella instead of a short story, and may initially publish as chapters and incomplete. This is my sense as I look at the treatment, which I think will work, and take a deep breath before launching in. As Fluttershy said in

Writing, something from nothing · 11:47pm Jul 3rd, 2015

Once again persistent effort proves rewarding. The Equestria Daily WTG prompts for Party Pooped struck me as unappetizing fodder. If anything, I thought it at most an opportunity to write something really short, like barely 1000 words short. The only thing I could think of was a My Dinner with Andre moment with friends just talking, but talking like adults. I struggled over two days and barely got 300 words. Then Fluttershy took over the narrative and turned secretive. What fun. The

Doing the Write Thing · 7:05pm Jun 27th, 2015

Writing is not hard; starting is.

During the typewriter dark ages, we called it staring at a white page. Today, I suppose, it's staring at an empty screen.

Muffins! (aka Derpy aka Ditzy-Doo) · 6:55pm Jun 21st, 2015

My fifth story is up, and my lesson learned is that again, deadlines are a good thing. It is teaching me to be creative on a schedule, and in the world of publishing, you have to complete stories and sell them.

I am quite proud of No Fault of Her Own. It took plenty of thought about Muffin's character to be able to channel the essence of her personality and purpose in life. Both her story and the title came to me both within the same five minutes.
