Caity Cat

Just a humble potato. I mostly just lurk and read stories.

1238463 I did love that song a lot when I was younger, predictably. :rainbowlaugh:

Pete is a very clever vocalist, although his bass leaves something to be desired. I can hardly hear it most songs. Still, Folie a Deux is my fifth favorite album of all time, and Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes is just fucking perfect; it's self aware, and a crowd anthem for those fed up with love but still can't throw away its sweet embrace (boycott love and detox just to retox!). A lot of Infinity on High is also fucking amazing, and THnks Fr Th Mmrs was the first song I was super into (not Sugar We're Goin Down, sorry for that mistake, although that song was another early fave of mine and bests Thnks in my opinion). I love all their work, though. I've got every single album of theirs, the EPs, and even a live show they did in 2008 on PBS. I don't half-ass my musical obsessions :rainbowlaugh:

My Chemical Romance has helped me a lot in life though, especially because even though they get a bad rap for being "emo", their one of the most positive bands I've ever listened to. For fuck's sake, three of their biggest songs from their biggest album are all about coming to terms with yourself, and carrying on even when you've been beaten down to an inch of (literal or metaphorical) life. I thought they were an emo band for emos for AGES, until two summers ago my pandora played Welcome to the Black Parade. Shit changed my music life forever. They've helped me a lot, so they've got a special place in my life.

I didn't really begin my huge musical exploration until I was about 14 (which was the two summers ago previously mentioned). I was getting big into the fandom and music at the same time, but I sorta inherited the teenage music of the previous crowd, getting all into stuff that was popular when I was only a little kid. I mean, I also got into dadrock stuff like Pink Floyd and Nirvana, but the vast majority of my music taste was dominated by pop punk stuff from yesterday's music scene. I'm huge into indie now, although I detest most other 16 year olds who go around pretending to be some sort of scene-breakers because they enjoy listening to indie rock and stuff (and usually it's indie pop, which I also love, it's just not accurate to what they THINK they're listening to).

My voice is still pretty awful, but I'm determined to make it in a band whether it's amazing or not. Hell, most rock singers aren't amazing when they start out, they get work done on the road when performing live and practicing. Plus, they fix up a lot of studio recordings to make them sound 40 times better than they actually do.

I actually do have a huge series of fics based around a ton of band's discographies, and both MCR and FOB have story-lines I hope on getting started this summer.

I think my first rock song was actually Bring Me To Life, haha. Everyone likes some Evanescence now and then, right?

Ah yes...I remember Modest Mouse. Interesting vocals indeed. And I remember Dirty Little Secret too! Along with Swing, Swing and Move Along. Old faves. c: As far as my attachment to FOB, I dunno; I guess I just sort of connected with Pete's lyrics because I've had depression for as long as I can remember, and he put a lot of that into the music. I've also been in a lot of trainwreck-level relationships so there were always plenty of FOB tunes for that. :rainbowlaugh: And of course Patrick's voice is unrivaled, I even like Soul Punk too. I can definitely understand your preference for MCR though given what you told me, and they were my second to FOB for awhile until they got bopped down a bit by Paramore (though I wasn't a big fan of the album they dropped after the Farro bros left, unfortunately :ajsleepy:).

I actually have always wanted to be a vocalist myself as well, but after many, many years of singing, I realized I wasn't going to be able to advance past the level I'm at now. :fluttercry: I think it's because my tonsils are gigantic, I can't get any resonance.

If I could come up with a good story, I would totally do some weird pony fic crossover with the bandom, though...

1238413 Sugar We're Goin' Down was one of the first rock songs I was SUPER into (along with Dirty Little Secret by AAR and Rise Above This by Seether). I wish I had a voice like Patrick's as well—I'm an aspiring vocalist and right now I sound more like Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, who is my current avatar musician than anyone else. While I do love Modest Mouse, Isaac's voice is... interesting, to say the least. :twilightoops: MCR sticks with me a little more than FOB because of the culture they built around their albums and live shows and stuff. The stories they created with their music, their mentality, the mythos... it appeals to the writer in me. Plus, The Black Parade was the first rock opera I owned and opened me up to the idea of stories in music and albums as stories that work together, which shaped my writing monumentally. Wish I'd gotten to see them live. Still, FOB will always have a place in my heart. :rainbowkiss:

When writing it, I actually thought it wouldn't be that powerful of a piece. It was slow writing and took the better part of two weeks for me, but I'm glad people loved it as much as they did.

I listened to MCR a lot growing up, too. I still spin them sometimes, but FOB is mostly what has stuck with me over the years. Patrick is my idol, I wish I had pipes like that man (just...a lady version of said pipes), I'd be pursuing my singing way more fervently if I did. I'm actually going to Monumentour next month; I hope you get to see them live sometime!

And yeah the fic was really interesting. It appealed to that weird soul-searchy part of me that wonders about death and all that at random times and totally disrupts whatever I'm doing. Makes me feel anxious when I think about it though. :twilightoops:

1238405 Fucking in love with Fall Out Boy myself, although a few other bands are just a bit higher on the list for me (My Chemical Romance is my binge right now, I've essentially listened to them solid for the last three weeks). Still, I aspire to see FOB live one day.

And thank you! I'm glad you liked the fic enough to follow me.
