Honestly it reminded me of the Chrysalis fight in the show. I understand why it was done (in this case to move the plot forward to Twilight's encounter with Nightmare Moon and/or to make them aware of Twilight) but the scene setting this up just breaks the suspension of belief completely and feels more like the hand of the author making the plot fall into place than what would actually happen.

So a couple guards take on Twilight Sparkle by kicking her a few times?

Ah, but these are alternative guards, trained under the rule of Solar Flare and Nightmare Moon. Who knows what they're capable of?
