After stumbling upon references to Starswirl the Bearded's brief foray into the research of dreams, Twilight begins having frightening, morbid nightmares. What begins with skeptical curiosity about what Starswirl's research would have to say turns into a desperate plea for help as Twilight begins to doubt she is really dreaming.

Life was beginning to feel like everything an eager young pegasus could ask for when Scootaloo's idol, Rainbow Dash, offered her flying lessons. She learned the basics of flight and got to spend time with her favorite pony. It all seemed like a wish coming true until fate forced her back to the ground. Now, Scootaloo must cope with drastic change. She must face the possibility of never being normal again, and she must decide whether her dreams are still within reach.

**Note: This story uses Season 2 canon. Elements from Season 3's continuity will not appear in this story. This is because the story is already planned out except for the smaller details. Including anything from season 3, whether it would help or hinder, is likely to cause changes in the story that could influence the final direction of the story (which I do not want) or make the story impossible to complete.

Rainbow is devastated to learn that despite her best performance yet, she didn't pass the Wonderbolt tryouts. Incredibly distraught, she makes the worst decision any pony could. She survives, and learns more about friendship than she ever expected.
