Gee....... That's pretty dark, if I must say so myself.
I liked it, and the idea of Immortalshy as Discord's eternal companion was good, except one thing in the story really bothered me.
The numbers. "The numbers, Mason. What do they mean?"
I see that in most cases, you use the abuse of numbers as its own little plot device, to signify that Fluttershy has been slowly keeping track of these long years. I may be seen as OCD or nit-picky here, but please spell out the numbers. It makes to story more professional-looking and keeps the story flowing nicely.

From what I understand is that you are supposed to spell out one through ten, then it is 11-infinity, which if I had an infinity key, I would have put there as well.
As for the story, it was rather disturbing, I do admit. I know once I could control nothing, I would work on tuning everything out, sleeping while moving. But that is just me. Very well written, though I don't think I will reread it.

Oddly enough, I could almost see Discord pulling something like this. Reformed or not, I doubt he'd take his only friend's death easily.

My only critique would be that the "HE" thing seemed a bit melodramatic to me, but maybe that's just me. This fic is really great all the same.
Well-written and a near-perfect homage to Ellison's classic. It'd be hard to find the distinction between the two.

This was painful to read.
I would like to draw a comic on this, but it's more of a narrative and the picture will show the opposite) I imagine how people will see a colorful comic strip where Discord and Fluttershy stroll through the forest and will be surprised as they'll start reading the Narration boxes on the panels. Not very good for advertising, not surprised why such a powerful work isn't so popular.
And second, unlike the idea in the book, there is too little hope. In the book, the description of the hero's immortal state is described succinctly enough so that we retain the sensations of intrigues and actions before it. We saw how the heroes suffered, but had the opportunity to do something. Here, I think it would be worthwhile to reduce the content after obtaining Fluttershy's immortality and perhaps choose another character altogether. I do not think that here the author's fault in working with the characters, but to fill the plot with more actions, except as one story line about Discord's relationship to Fluttershy, it would be much more painful at the end when hope fade.
