The Song of Tattered Armor

“What Happened out there?” He asked him. The doctors shooed him away saying “it’s too early for that.” we didn’t even know it was that close. It came down upon us like light entering a dark room. Its claws razor sharp, teeth glistening in their crimson cloak. We were supposed to keep it away from the civilians while also keeping ourselves away from it. We were doing so good until it vanished. It left like a dream; gone before we could even comprehend it was there. We pushed forward looking for it but we went too far and it came up from behind us. I heard them say I saved his life but at what cost? He can’t walk anymore, he can hardly move his head. I think I turned out better than him. I sit by him and think how I could have been so useless. I guess this is just the song of tattered armor.

This was a random spur of the moment idea that came to mind I thought it would be longer but this is all I had at the time. I've struggled with this one because I think it could be a great story with a great meaning but I don't know where to go from here.
