Starlight Fan

I am a big fan of Starlight Glimmer most of my stories center around her. I do crossovers as well.

Discord pays a visit to Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow and wonders if he went too far with his decided punishment to turn him to stone. He clearly needed a second opinion, luckily he has a friend who’s willing to listen to him.

I'll say this, it's nice to see Discord at least showing some remorse and introspection. It's better than how the show ended off at least, where he rarely ever thinks before he does something. Still, I disagree with some things said here, don't take this as an attack on the story.

Starlight then walked away from Discord and to the statue of the Legion Of Doom, “I mean, don’t get me wrong I do feel bad for them,” she then looked at Chrysalis and then added, “well, to an extent at least, but them being in stone together is probably more safe than putting them in Tartarus together. I mean, Tirek literally escaped when he was there by himself, and while maybe putting him there with Cozy Glow may not be a big risk but putting both of them in with Chrysalis may not be the best idea. We both know how capable she is.”

Well, for starters Tartarus did successfully hold Tirek for over a thousand years. He only broke out once and that's because Cerberus left his post. Tartarus has basically the same track record of containing villains that stoning has, since Discord also broke out. But more importantly they do have safe ways to deal with them. They have the shards of Chrysalis's throne which could be used to disable their magic while in a prison, they have Grogar's bell now which can be used to drain their magic if necessary. Those are only really necessary for Tirek and Chrysalis anyway, Cozy is just a pegasus foal. She has no powers. They have the tools at their disposal right now

“They hurt my friends Starlight Glimmer. I may have played a bit of a part in it, but those three… they were monsters Starlight. You heard what Chrysalis said in that cave, didn’t you?” Discord asked angrily.

”Patience, Cozy. Destruction is so... permanent. We need to show the rest of Equestria that we've broken their heroes first. Besides, we should have fun with our guests.” Past Chrysalis said with a smirk.

Personally, I think Discord is being a huge hypocrite here, whether he realizes it or not. He's right, the trio were monsters here. But the thing is, once upon a time so was Discord. Discord was a monster, he selfishly threw the whole world into chaos, making everyone else's lives miserable all for the sake of his own enjoyment. He didn't care how anyone else felt or how much they suffered as long as he was having fun. Worse than that, he clearly enjoyed the suffering he caused. We can see this with how he treated the Mane Six, as shown with Fluttershy he could "Discord" them at any time with just a simple touch, but he only did that with her because he was failing to get into her head. With the others he went out of his way to slowly break them, mess with them psychologically, turn them against each other and their elements with false truths and impossible choices. All because it was more fun. Because hurting them mentally was more entertaining than just tapping them on the head and being done with it. This is the same guy who cheered when he saw he had utterly broken Twilight's spirit. Heck, even after reformation he still had this side to him, as late as Season 6 he still happily reminisces on what he did to the Mane Six in the hedge maze, even though they're his friends now.

"Destruction is so permanent" is the main reason why I think he himself didn't kill anyone as a villain. Dead ponies don't scream and flee in terror, they don't react with despair when their home turns into a cardboard cutout in front of them. You can't break the mind of a dead pony, or turn them against their friends, or make them think they're a dog. It's more fun to have a working puppet that you can make dance than it is to have a broken one. He's only different from Chrysalis in that he's seemingly less interested in physical harm, but it doesn't mean he wasn't interested in causing suffering. Discord wants to think he has the moral high ground over them, but he really doesn't.

Especially because, while they did want to hurt his friends, Discord encouraged that. As Grogar he pretended to be leading them into a plan to attack Equestria and his friends, and as part of his role he told them that they are right to do what they do. They are right to want revenge, right to be evil, right to want to hurt Twilight, and Fluttershy, and Starlight. Just because he didn't plan to actually allow them to do so doesn't absolve him of the fact that he was essentially feeding their evil as part of his plan. Discord is only not a monster now because Celestia decided to release him, and because Fluttershy did everything in her power to show him true kindness and friendship, despite him not being remorseful or even wanting that second chance. But with the trio he put himself in a position of power over them and then he did basically the opposite, he was the Anti-Fluttershy.

Discord has made some improvement in the story certainly, but he still has a long way to go to fully acknowledge his own responsibility in these events.

“well, to an extent at least, but them being in stone together is probably more safe than putting them in Tartarus together. I mean, Tirek literally escaped when he was there by himself,

Yeah about that:ajbemused:

Princess Celestia: [narrating] Scorpan returned to his own land, and Tirek was sent to Tartarus for his crimes. But it appears he has found a way to escape.

Princess Luna: We believe it happened when Cerberus left his post at the gates.

Tirek was only able to escape because Cerberus left his post, which begs the question, HOW was Cerberus able to leave Tartarus in the first place?

We know it takes magic to open the gates of Tartarus, and I don't think Cerberus haves that kind of magic. Which means he either found an alternate way to leave or someone let him out.

It can't be the first because he could have told Fluttershy about the alternate escape route, and I still doubt he could open the door himself, so, the best option is that somebody let him out.

I mean its weird. Cerberus has been guarding Tartarus for over a thousand years. Then one day he gets out, which led to Tirek escaping, when he returned back to Tartarus, he clearly saw that Tirek was gone and didn't alert Celestia about it? And it's funny how Tirek’s defeat led to Twilight getting her new castle. Funny how that box appeared and the mane 5 were able to get their keys just before Tirek finally made his move.

It was almost as if someone knew these things were going to happen and had to set them in motion. If Cerberus never left his post, Tirek would have never escape, which means Twilight never gets her key. If you think deeply enough about it, you could see that all of this was planned and I have an idea who the masterminds are.

That wink sure seems suspicious and that happened after Tireks defeat.

Which tells me that there is more going on here and it continues on to when Discord formed The Legion of Doom, which is a plan that made absolutely no sense.

For what Starlight said, remember she did say that once they found a better solution, they could send the villains to Tartarus without having to be in stone. She didn’t really think of that option yet. And that was intentional, I made it vague of course so you probably didn’t catch on which isn’t your fault but I was just clarifying.

As for Discord, I was mostly inferring to the whole physical harm thing, even with Villain Discord, I doubt he would go that far. That’s basically what I implied.

11345297
Cerberus might have that type of magic, Discord was still a statue at that time so he couldn’t have done it. And Celestia was clearly panicking when she had that vision of Tirek. Which means the only one who could have let Cerberus out was himself. I don’t know why he didn’t notice Tirek’s absence or let Celestia or Luna know about it though that probably has more to do with him being a dog in the end of the day.

An interesting theory though.

11345304
Oh, there's a lot more to this theory then what I put down, I’m not going to go through it all here because it will take too long to write, I’ll let my story WAIT THIS ISN'T OVER YET!!!! take care of the details.

For what Starlight said, remember she did say that once they found a better solution, they could send the villains to Tartarus without having to be in stone. She didn’t really think of that option yet. And that was intentional, I made it vague of course so you probably didn’t catch on which isn’t your fault but I was just clarifying.

Fair enough, though I do still think it's a little silly they haven't thought of anything else when they have those tools at their disposal right now. But at least Starlight wants to let them out of the statue and find a better containment, she just needs to put some more thought into it. While they're at it, maybe they could make those living conditions in Tartarus a bit more livable too.

As for Discord, I was mostly inferring to the whole physical harm thing, even with Villain Discord, I doubt he would go that far. That’s basically what I implied.

I guess my disagreement there then is just that I don't think it makes him meaningfully any better. He still caused suffering and pain and enjoyed it. Mental torture is still torture, and Discord's world would be a living hell for pretty much anyone other than him. A world where the laws of physics can change at will, your body and mind can be violated at any moment just because Discord thinks it'd be funny, and your own family might be turned against you because Discord wants that sweet, sweet Disharmony.

Cozy and Tirek even mostly just wanted their enemies dead, it was primarily Chrysalis who argued for torture, and to be honest between being blown up by Cozy and Tirek or living the rest of my life in Discord's "Wonderland" I'd rather just get it over with and get blown up. At least then it's over, I can cease to be or move onto the afterlife or whatever. The rest of my life won't be spent in a nonsensical surrealist hell directed by a Mad God. Discord wants to think he's better because he has some arbitrary "standards" but he really isn't. Here he's started to realize he messed up and that maybe he went too far, so I'll commend him for making progress but I think he's still not fully grasping it.

Nice story, although I disagree with many parts of it. If Discord felt so bad, he should have suggested reforming them. This and even Tartarus are far too cruel, especially for the literal child.

“ it’s unfortunate that they couldn’t be helped.”

Nobody ever tried to help them. Maybe Chrysalis, but not even she got it to the extent Discord got.

11345413
Chrysalis was given the offer but she ran off so there wasn’t a means to help her as much as there was for Discord given he was imprisoned.

Cozy Glow was already knowledgeable in friendship so they probably thought there wasn’t much they could do for her, was it a bad choice, maybe, but an understandable one.

Tirek eats magic, if they find a way to restrain those abilities, then maybe they could attempt to save him(pre-Grogar’s bell) but pre-season nine, there wasn’t much they could do for him without potentially risking ponies’ safety, at least with Discord there was the Elements Of Harmony.

11345431
That's the thing though with Chrysalis: Literally anyone could have captured her given that she was all alone, but they just let her fly away instead of trying to further help her. If nothing else, she would realistically have been safer considering her powers are far lower.

For Cozy, I guess, but that still doesn't change the fact that Starlight seemed to know quite a few things about friendship herself back in her villain days. I mean, she did manage to manipulate a bunch of ponies to join her village and even during one of the time loops, she managed to make Rainbow Dash and her bullies become friends in a very short time. Also, Discord sided with Tirek after Fluttershy supposedly reformed him, so there's that. I suppose it just feels odd from a writing perspective that they would give up on her so easily, although that's moreso a fault with that particular episode.

Speaking of Tirek, I don't think it would be hard to keep him in check as long as there is at least one powerful creature around. We clearly saw Chrysalis rather casually resisting his attempt to drain her magic in Frenemies. Besides that, the only ones he can safely steal their powers are too weak to give him enough of a boost before Discord could recapture him. Also, the elements work on him as well. I'd argue that he'd be actually safer to reform because he starts of so weak in comparison to many other reformed villains.

Again, the story itself wasn't bad, I just find certain parts of it disagreeable.

An interesting story. I enjoyed Discord and Starlight's interactions. And Starlight made some good points on the risk factor of simply releasing the trio.

11346041
Thank you. How come you liked it?

11346089
Mainly for the philosophical debate of keeping the trio contained. And for the focus on Discord and his history.

11346354
Thoughts on the story overall?

11346459
I think Starlight was a good addition, since she was once a villain as well and knew what it was like to have a burning vengeance for Twilight and her friends. And to me, it makes sense for Starlight to feel bad for the villains. Because she most likely would've been like them if she didn't take Twilight's advice for friendship and be a better pony. It was as if she was feeling bad that they missed out the chance to have a better life.

Although something tells me that they would prefer being bad.

And I would imagine Discord feeling gulity for putting the villains in a prison that he was in once. Not to mention that he summoned them in the first place.

11345297

Which tells me that there is more going on here and it continues on to when Discord formed The Legion of Doom, which is a plan that made absolutely no sense.

Smolder: Uh, yeah. I've been saying this for a while now. Discord staged his betrayal with Tirek and knew that, with Celestia's help, everything would work out in the end, and it did, might I add. His Legion plan also did make sense. You didn't see how nervous Twilight was when her coronation grew nearer and nearer. Discord, the rest of the harem, and I did. You should also remember that Discord acted alone when forming the Legion. If he had Celestia's help, I do believe things would have gone very differently. That book wouldn’t have been stolen, all three villains would be reformed and, uh, well, let's just say the ending result of the battle would've been a lot less tragic and brutal.

11345271
Yeah, because as much we love Discord and want him to turn good, no one is gonna change after a thousand years trapped in stone. Why else did you think Discord did all those terrible stuff and even went as far as to unleash the legion of doom on Equestria whether he intended to or not, even after Fluttershy supposedly manged to turn him good? In fact I wouldn't have been surprised if he did it all to (at least partially) get revenge on Celestia and Luna for turning him into stone in the first place (especially the former since she then had Twilight and the others let him out to make him turn to good), even if he have gone too far with the whole legion of doom thing and then give the terrible trio them his fate.
