This chapter was gold, honestly. I love Cadance and Fluttershy, and this is exactly how I imagine Cadance would do her job. With nothing but understanding and acceptance. And you even had her surprised, but apologetic and careful. I love it.
And how strong Fluttershy is in her love for Discord. How determined she is to see this through. The romance of it all is threaded in each word you use. The Romantic in me is eating it up shamelessly.
Honestly, I think your emotions here are better than those shown between Efron and Zendaya. I love "The Greatest Showman", but not for their part in it. I honestly thought it was the weakest part of the story.
But this? This has way more raw emotion that Zac and Zendaya can't even hold a candle to.
And the last part of the lake... That was maybe the saddest twist I've ever heard. The lake is every tear he's shed in that spot.
He just keeps torturing himself. He has no idea that Fluttershy is his greatest hope at this point.
This whole story is just so beautiful and heart-rending.
And now I have no idea where this is going to go and it's the last chapter we've got right now.

I really enjoyed implementing Cadence into this story. As the Princess of Love I thought it made sense that she would help ponies with hurting hearts, no matter how unconventional the relationship may be to others.
Fluttershy may seem timid to most but she is passionate about what she loves and I feel like she'd do whatever she could to fight for that. It definitely helped getting a confidence boost from at least one pony friend, though.

Thank you so much! Every time I hear this song it just screams Fluttershy and Discord to me. I've listened to it so many times while writing this chapter and I snuck in pieces of the lyrics throughout their conversation.
The chocolate milk lake is one of my favorite creations. Discord can be very emotional but, besides tearing up a few times, I don't think we've seen him shed tears openly in front of others. I wanted to create a place where he could go and let everything out without holding back. He's refusing to see what he needs (cough, Fluttershy, cough) but hopefully he'll get a wake up call soon.

Wow, Discord is an incredible cad in this chapter. He is very much wallowing in self-pity. But, this is a new situation for him, so it makes a lot more sense to give him cad-like behavior than all the times on the show where Discord magically forgets everything he's learned in similar situations and acts like a cad. But this chapter is completely justified, because this is strictly about love, not friendship. Fluttershy is trying to SAVE their friendship, she's trying to stop pursuing more with him, and he's having a temper tantrum.
Now Cadance is going to talk to Discord during his temper tantrum! Oh my gosh, yes. Yes yes yes. I am excited to see how you interpret such a meeting. Hopefully she can knock some sense into him. And then maybe Discord can learn to have some respect for others besides Fluttershy and be (temporarily) humbled. (Very temporarily.)

Exactly. That's why I think this is an appropriate use of reverting Discord back into being a total jerk. The show always yanked him back and forth with his lessons when he should have known better. With this, though? Totally different ballgame. And it's as Discord Two said: there were flings, but this time there's real, actual, messy, gooey feelings involved that intersect with friendship, but is a lot more intense.
And I'm so excited for more. Especially if Fluttershy DOES get her Soul Mark, because you actually made the concept of 'soulmate' quite flexible. It doesn't mean you CAN'T fall in love with someone else. It's more like making a magic spell the Ultimate Wingman, but that Wingman is only thoughtful in one aspect of the matchmaking process.
So does that mean it will *always* be another pony, because it has to connect with a cutie mark?
Could nothing show up? And what does that mean? Does that mean it's not a pony, or does that mean there's no soulmate?
So many questions...!
Honestly, I think it's a brilliant theory that Discord's flings were because he was attracted to their chaotic, contrary feelings within. That makes his attraction to Luna seem pretty reasonable. But Fluttershy being the first to be the one he truly loves, as herself, harmony or Disharmony aside? I've never read it quite in the way you have. It's original! I think it's clever and it makes SO much sense.
And he gave Cady a yellow rose for friendship! Yay. I love when friendship is still emphasized in a ship fic.

Also? Cordy Two was absolutely hilarious! Knocking Discord out and calling him a procrastinator, then giving Cadance a friendly goodbye...

I mean, this show is all about how friendship is magic. So many things can spark from it. That ending with Cordy Two was one of my favorite scenes to write. As someone who often finds inspiration in music, I have wanted to write a Fluttercord story based on this song for forever because the message and lyrics are beautifully tragic. But I could never come up with something I felt fit. But you've done a wonderful job with this concept and this chapter, because right now, they really feel like they’re breaking.
I love Fluttershy's plea that he let her in. He is so careful with his feelings and guarded. And there is nothing more heart rending than such a plea turned down by fear. They were so close.
Calling it now: that's not going to help. Cause Discord dosnt have a cutiemark.
Although, it would be an interesting twist if she did get a soulmark, right as Discord finally came to accept that she loved him only to find she no longer loves him. That would be evil.

A Discord fighting fiercely for love is the best kind! Admittedly, there are better ways to approach the princess of love, but hes not thinking strategic anyways. His threats are entertaining though.

Yeah, Discord isn't the best when handling his emotions and being in love is something he has never dealt with before so of course he's somewhat of a loose cannon. I enjoyed writing his anger and frustration towards the guards and Shining Armor.

In the early days of Fluttercord, I feel it was very common to have Discord bend reality to give her immortality. And I loved it. I love the concept of Eternal love and was sad the more rare it became. I have not seen a new fic where Fluttershy is given immortality in ages and am so delighted that it's the path you went with.
Sure Discord deciding to love her even if she will die is good. But I think defying the odds and allowing her to gain immortality is so much better.
As always, looking forward to what comes next! Namely, the apologies Discord better give her after ignoring her for weeks.

I gotta say, didn't see any of this coming! And I'm delighted and intrigued! It isn't my headcanon, but it's good lore on Discord’s background that I could see happening. His mother sounds gorgeous. And I love how much she loves her random, crazy son and wants him to be happy. ♡ Though, to be fair, that raises so many questions!
The only element I'm struggling with is how her choice of potential mates is worded. So she created them specifically as potential suitors, BECAUSE they're the bearers of Harmony, or are they bearers of harmony because they're potential suitors for Discord? Both have very different meanings and honestly, I prefer the first interpretation.
And I have so many other questions!
Also I love how Discord constantly just leaves without explanation, even when Fluttershy is standing right there with her Soul Mark!
And I have some of my questions answered.
The fun part is I don't even know if you're about to wrap this up or throw another conflict in!

I agree with Marina! He had BETTER apologize to her! He was a total and utter cad and only got in both their own ways.
Also, the boy really needs more interventions. Discord, stop threatening to ruin the world when you run into problems that are intense and novel for you. Learn some coping skills! Though props to him for going to Cady BEFORE doing so. That’s actually quite awesome of him to do and is a coping skill, so Fluttershy should praise him for that.
He needs some more work but I should shut my mouth because don't we all?

I'm glad you liked Fluttershy's "ascension". I felt it poetic that it is Discord's immortality that she is tied to so that they are bound together; just another way to show how deep their love is. I went that route because I'm a sucker for eternal love and I wanted to keep Fluttershy a pegasus. While it's fun to see her use magic as an alicorn (even when it's chaos magic because Discord is the reason she's an alicorn) I liked the idea of keeping things the same in the show where Discord is the magic user and Fluttershy happily takes care of her animals. Now they have an eternity to do the things they love together.

My favorite part was honestly the part where Rarity offers him her hoof in friendship and he gladly and quickly agrees.
Because kissing in public makes me feel just as awkward with the Mane 6!
But ohhhh I love Discord flirting, Twilight needing, Pinkie hyping, Rainbow gagging, Rarity shipping, and Applejack defending!

A beautiful and emotional ending to a beautiful and emotional story that we don't see much anymore since the show ended. One that ends with Discord giving an apology truly worthy of Fluttershy, for what he put her through. But ending in a way that ties the important things up but leaves it still open and all warm and fuzzy.
I loved this story. Your pacing was good, your plot had original elements, your characterization was on point, and the emotional aspects felt real, to the point where even Discord felt this was a story that needed some normalcy!

I'm always invested in a series after it's been over for a while.) I'm glad there are other Fluttercord shippers still out there and fans of MLP:FiM. It's been so much fun writing this story. I'd love to get the time to write some additional scenes. Like meeting the parents, courting, how season 9 would be different, the wedding, and those grandchildren Mother Nature mentioned. I really enjoyed writing Rarity in this fic. I think her taking the initiative to offer a hoof in friendship was a good opening for the others. Maybe I'll write some scenes later where the 5 have their own friendship adventures with Discord. Who knows? The future is full of opportunities.
