Accused of a crime she didn't commit, Twilight Sparkle is wrongly imprisioned. How will she adjust if she is ever released and what dark power framed her?
I disagree... someone bleeping with your mind is something that you are going to find hard to figure out, especially if there are commands to make you think "Well this is normal!" That DOES absolve them of the 99.99999999999999% of blame here and puts it on the Machiavellian villain who put those mental commands into place.
10740310 something to note is that celestia was able to check on her eventualy. so that means that the "this is normal" effect isnt overpowering and is able to be pushed aside with a good reason. i have to question if it can be pushed aside with a good reason were the guards under the same spell or were they told not to feed twilight.
Definitely the Sisters aren't to blame. If they genuinely were under a spell, it's not a case of someone voluntarily drinking, then driving and causing a disaster because they were drunk of their own free will and stupid mistakes, it's a case where someone had their food or drink spiked without their knowledge, then driving and having an accident. Any consequences are entirely the responsibility of whoever spiked their food or drink, the driver in that case is another victim.
Even though Twilight had been ‘safe’ in her cell and had not been attacked she had been targeted a hundred and fifty years ago.
I thought it was a hundred years ago, but I guess it doesn’t matter.
Twilight may not have been injured or killed by the alicorn’s hand but his actions had directly resulted in Twilight’s torture and imprisonment with the intention of having her killed. He had committed treason against the crown, every one of them, and he would pay dearly for it.
Don’t blame everything on the make alicorn. You two played a part in it, too.
Celestia winced at the reminder. It had been the first thing she had done after taking Twilight out of her cell. Cadance had quickly replied with a very long letter that amounted to an extremely angry ‘I told you so’. Celestia had no doubt she was already on a chariot to Canterlot and it would not be the last of the princess of love’s rage. Still it was anger well deserved, after all the only thing Cadance was truly guilty of was believing that Celestia would only do what was right and not coming for the trial.
Wait, if she believed her then why not come and confront twilight or something?
The trial had been short, Celestia admitted to herself, looking back on it. Even in cases where a pony confessed to the crime it usually lasted a few days. It took time to go over all the evidence and how remorseful the perpetrator was. There were quite a few things Celestia usually considered before reaching a verdict and the sentencing. Yet it hadn’t happened for this case. For whatever reason all she could remember about the trial itself was wanting it over with. She had a few vague memories of speaking with Spike the night before the beginning of the trail, promising that there would be character witnesses, that Twilight’s various heroic acts would be taken into consideration for sentencing and yet she hadn’t called for them. Luna hadn’t either, she realized, now that Celestia really thought about it. They had called for the evidence to be brought forth, they had talked about it for an appallingly short time, then they had asked what Twilight had to say for herself.
So they were hypocrites.
“But Twilight was only supposed to be imprisoned for two hundred years. Eventually we would have let her out, we should have discussed the matter a few times over the years like we do for any criminal before their release. Yes her imprisonment was significantly longer than a standard ponies but we always discuss their progress, keep an eye on them to see if they’re still a danger to society. We didn’t even keep a close enough eye on her to see if she was eating. We didn’t even give her anything to do . Anyone placed in confinement is supposed to be allowed to keep themselves mentally stimulated since they can’t have physical activity, we can’t risk letting them out. Twilight was left in her cell with nothing .”
Just turn in your f*cking crowns.
The younger princess began searching more recent memories. Celestia was right. Something wasn’t adding up. All the guards knew the protocol so how had Twilight slipped through their fingers? Cadance and Shining Armor had repeatedly asked for updates about Twilight, even if they weren’t allowed to speak with her but every time they were brushed off and forgotten about. For the first few years Spike had almost incessantly demanded to speak with Twilight and then to see her but he was redirected to a guard to deal with. Twilight was supposed to be locked away and forgotten about. Almost compulsively. Why?
Why not just check on her yourselves?
“Send for a doctor.” Luna demanded suddenly.
Why?
There could be only one reason for their behavior. Someone had been using mind magic on them and neither had noticed or if they had they didn’t remember it. The fact that they were now noticing the behavior meant it was trigger based. One to activate it and another to remove it. The most troubling matter was that Alicorns had a natural resistance to mind magic, in order to pull something like this off it had to be someone close to them who was with them most of the day. It painted a sinister picture. The royal guard had been compromised.
I want to make this clear. This is not a chapter erasing blame. Even IFCelestia and Luna were put under some spell (or maybe just getting too old) they are still responsible for their actions. Just like if someone got drunk and then drove a car and got in an accident it would still be their fault. Their decision making skills may be impaired but they still made the decision. This is a chapter moving the plot forward nothing more. You may still freely continue to hate/blame the sisters or you may decide they deserve some slack after reading this. I won't judge or tell you how to feel either way because even as the author I both sympathize and rage against the mistreatment.
Despite that. How can anyone "Sympathize" with the Sisters that F***** UP Twilight's Life, breaking her physically, Mentality, and emotionally.
I am still going onward for them to be PUNISHED by Bad Karma or something?! Or let Twilight to NEVER forgive them forever.
Edit: Why do I get a dislike? Those two had it coming for ruining Twilight's Life. NO Apologies or "Can you forgive me" excuse BS can fix Twilight, now.
10740411 54,750 Days/365 gets you 150. I used the number of days during the imprisonment chapters because I wanted to emphasize just how long she was locked up with no one and nothing. From now on when referring to her time in prison I will be going by years like most people refer to the passing of a long time. For instance you would say I’m ‘x’ days old you’d say I’m ‘x’ years old but if you were doing something unpleasant for a decent amount of time you’d probably refer to the time in days like ‘I’ve been stuck in the mine for ‘x’ days’.
10740416 I sympathize because if someone was forcing me to do something against my will I’d be just as ticked as I would be if I was wrongfully locked up. I’m not sure if it was clear and coming chapters will describe just exactly what the spell did but essentially the spell was supposed to emphasize specific thoughts and feelings while suppressing others of the casters choosing. So say someone did something that was mildly irritating to you and it’s something you’d normally just move on from but suddenly it’s all you can think about and you can’t think ‘huh this normally wouldn’t bug me that much’ instead all you can focus on is revenge for this stupid thing. It’s not exactly the same because Twilight spent 150 YEARS in prison but it was sort of like ‘it’s not important’ ‘she’s not important’ ‘don’t think about it’ ‘focus on what she did’. they’re decisions were their own except unless something was vitality important to them their conscience wouldn’t be loud enough to say “hey this is wrong”
10740347 I remark that it’s similar to drinking not exactly the same. The reason being that the spell wasn’t meant to completely alter their behavior just their focus of certain thoughts and feelings. They weren’t able to fight it off because it wasn’t ‘important’ enough to them and that’s where they get blame.
If someone else is controlling your emotions and actions, then you have zero accountability. You reactions are not your own. Add to that the fact they were made not thing think about it meaning they could not come to their senses and correct it.
Hm, this is a twist. I imagine the male alicorn has been disguised as a guard and using his position to poison the Princesses’ minds. On the one hand, that at least makes the princesses more sympathetic. On the other, I think this reveal robs this story of some of its drama. I think I’d have preferred if all the guilty party had done was frame Twilight, but the trial, isolation, and neglect had been deliberately done by the Sisters because of their anger. It would make this story tragic in a very Greek sense, and would lead to some interesting character development where the Sisters would be confronted with their own capacity for cruelty. It would make our sadistic villain become a kind of foil for the Princesses, in that he tortures ponies for fun, while they do it for “justice.” Indeed, this would raise some interesting ethical dilemmas about the value of punitive punishment, and how far it can slide from “justice”, to becoming as bad as the crime being punished.
That said, this is your tale. I look forward to seeing how all of this plays out.
10740668 I agree with this. By making it that they've been manipulated the entire time, it now practically absolves them of any guilt that they have for what they've done to Twilight. It feels like this has been done to make it easier for Twilight to forgive them once the story is done because "They were all manipulated into this."
Will The royal sisters be able to heal Twilight? Can she even be healed at all? And if so will they be able to stop this evil Alicorn once and for all?
Where did he come from? What does he want? And who is he?
It seems the only way to beat him is with the magic of friendship. But it doesn't lok like using that power isn't gonna be easy.
from your author note, if someone else casts mind magic on you wouldn't it be more like someone else spiking your drink without your knowledge and then you driving
