I thought point 5 was kind of obvious. Celestia wasn't able to purify Luna because she wasn't the bearer of three of the elements. She forced them to work which is why she no longer is able to use them. I mean in the same episode we see her use them on Luna we see Luna and Celestia gain control of the elements and three going to both of them. I can't remember which ones went where though.
