Most authors seem to either not know about it or ignore it, it's nice to see it acknowledged for once considering that cannonicaly it is one of the biggest issues when dealing with orks.

Luckily Ork spores can lay dormant for centuries in the absence of a Waaagh! So we don't have to worry about them right now.

Yea not possible, even simplest firearms are quite complex. Taking consideration all the hydraulics of artillery, gas pull back of rifles. Or wiring and programs of war machines. They simply do not have tech level to design that level of weapons. And facilities to build them would need to be massive. Ammunition is expensive alone and require massive factories. And by designing weapons from out look only without knowledge of machines inner workings, would make such work impossible.

Well, even ignoring the fact that Equestria has developed modern technology within more urban areas (Manhattan, Las Pegasus) the fact Pinkie Pie's Party Cannons (and her new Party Bazooka) exist, plus the fact that Rainbow Dash named her turtle Tank (implying that Equestrians know what tanks are) does imply that they understand the concept and just never use it.
Also, I'm kinda gonna throw in a bit of a Deux Ex Machina at the end of this Volume/beginning of the next, and it's a not an mlp Ex Machina, it's a 40k one.

The word "Tank" does not automatically mean tracked armored vehicle. It was a code word for germans spies in world war 1 to code phrase to "water tank", to mask their real purpose. Therefore she would not mean actual tracked vehicle but a container that holds liquid. Pinkies party cannon would not be the same as howitzers, their shells would not be the same as cannon balls. There is a difference between cannon of thous after industrial revolution.

There are times when I wonder if you even watch My Little Pony.
Rainbow Dash named him Tank because he was 'like a tank'. And I genuinely doubt she meant a water tank, considering the context.
But, I digress. I mentioned in the Author's we wouldn't see much of it this volume. In fact, we'll hardly see anything next volume. But Aries is going to give them the gist of what humanity learned through centuries of trial and error. Cartridges over muzzle-fed, rifling, they will start with bolt action and go from there.
One thing I'm considering is that instead of using gun powder, they use magical energy that's sealed in a wax cartridge built around the bullet head, and when the firing pin breaks the wax, the magical energy is released and follows the same physics as an explosion.

Well they could have a idea similar to the one that of leonardo da vincis tank switch barely could pass as one.
And what comes to Aries telling about humanities history would be difficult because most of that is lost from imperial records.
And what comes to legionairs tactics during the heresy is not really something that ponies could really copy.
Like the times when legionaries used breaching shields to form shield walls like thous of the imperial fists. Or massive drop pod assaults of the blood angels. Or massive formed bike charges of the white scars. And what comes to the guard well some times like volley fire have worked against something like savage orks when done by iron guard. Or vostroyans masterful urban warfare. All have their own way of seeing how warfare must be done.
It would be up to ponies come up with their own tactics and their own weapons to supplement their strengths and weaknesses. But no matter how much they prepare, no tactic holds after first contact.
And if they really start to militarize. Then it would be interesting when they see that their once perfect state comes to some form of police state. Asking "what have they become" moments.

I wouldn't call this chapter a filler, but a good introduction-to-the-character chapter.
Setting the sanctuary on fire might be a good idea. A single Ork is one thing. But a bunch of them? That sounds dangerous both to the ecosystem, and to the people.

That is close to what I was thinking. The only thing I got cemented right now is that contained Unicorn magic will act as the main propellant for their bullets. Everything else is still in the works.
