Rough Sketch is a young artist from Baltimare who has recently suffered a personal tragedy. At the request of his friend and art manager, he travels to the seemingly idyllic Sasamare Lake in Vanhoover to recover but Rough Sketch has other plans. While out on the lake, he encounters the kelpie Sassie, a water pony that catches both his eye and his mind. Having found his muse, he decides to learn all he can about the strange mare, who is just as interested in him as he is in her.

What a lovely story

Always loved Kelpies, was always disappointed they didn’t appear more in stories

Rough Sketch took the photo with shaking hooves and crushed it against his chest. He then curled into a ball and began to weep, dry-heaving and gasping as the memories hit him. Meanwhile, Sassie stared dumbfounded at the pegasus. She then took another glance at the collection of photographs strewn around the table. They all featured him and the mare, with the most recent ones depicting her as being pregnant. Wait, why aren't there any more? A lightbulb went off and Sassie nearly hit herself due to her own stupidity. There weren't any wife and foals. He’s alone!

Big oops!

Can I squee? I want to squee. This was BEAUTIFUL! I jumped into it for the kelpie, I stayed for the beauty. Honestly, thank you for writing it.

I know right? As a fan of mythology/folklore, I wanted to rectify that.

This is kind of dark.

This story is way to underrated. It’s beautiful.

That it is. It was a little hard to write for me on a personal level

I usually avoid drama/tragedy like the plague, but I liked this story. Well written and kept me reading on. I would have preferred a non-tragic ending, but oh well... Anyway, good job! With a different ending tho, a longer sequel would have been nice. What would his friend think? How would the public react to a kelpie? What would the leaders of his nation do knowing what happened in the past?

I've considered doing an alternate ending follow-up. It's not out of the realm of impossibility.
