However not everyone was ignorant of the state of the world, a shrinking group knew the truth, but with the number now reduced to a single member, the fight is lost. Instead, it was time for acceptance that it was all over. Using the last of her resources, a girl has returned to the grounds of Canterlot High School for one last time.

With this type of cliffhanger, I could see the story diverging in so many ways. And I cannot wait for more.
You know, if you think about it, this is the most obvious cliff hanger. Since there needs to be a story, Sunset has to survive somehow, even if she's brought back to life after dying. Theoretically, anyway.
What happens after that, however, could really be almost anything. It's certainly engaging.
Interesting to see the situation on both sides of the Mirror Worlds.... But what about Sunset?

The way it seemed, they act like they never been part of a band, and been part of crystal prep for a long time. I'm assuming the Sirens deleted or altered their memories to make sure they weren't a threat, and as trophies as well.
They enslaved Princess Twilight as well, all thanks to Sunset fleeing.
This outcome worst then the one where Sunset empowered the Rainbow and killed two of the sirens and destroyed Canterlot High, blew apart the entire town, blinded Rainbow, caused the death of hundreds and that includes Sweetie Belle.

Seeing Sunset as a coward is a different take, one I had not expected. But yes, as a result of the Sirens winning, and Twilight failing to return to Equestria with the Element of Magic, the Changeling soon rose. I will explain more of what happened in further chapters. As far as the Rainbooms, they are now studying at Canterlot University, along with the Shadowbolts, and it does indeed seem they don't remember anything about being the Rainbooms.

Well she was last seen at the end of Chapter 1, when she put a gun to her head and a shot rang out, catching the Siren's unaware. Before that she had been on the run all over the world from the three of them as they expanded their reach using the Element of Magic as a source of power to come to control the world. Sunset was part of a resistance group- though it was more like conspiracy theorists- and the Siren's discovered it early on, and tracked her for six of those seven years, subtly influencing where she would go next, at least until they grew bored of the game, and forced her to more or less return to CHS on the seventh anniversary of the Sirens victory.
As far as where she is after that chapter, that will be mentioned eventually, though I would not hold out hope for her.
