I liked this one, and I mean really liked it. It had so many elements to it in such a small, let's call it a prologue. (At least I'm hopeful that it's a prologue to something)
Medieval politics paired with a strong leader and her adorable foal, I need nothing else. You even mentioned how odd ponies seem to age, considering the daughter is very young, yet her mother seems in her prime despite that seventy years comment implying the mother has been alive that long. A type of Lord of the Rings Dwarven aging process if you will.
Another fic by Snowliasion added to my favorites bookshelf, oh how unexpected.
