Chrysalis's hive has gained three new souls. Not just any mere changelings, but three prophesied for grand things. Indeed, they are unlike any other before them. But just how different will these new changelings be?
Shouldn't a lot of the fear response rely on a positive feedback loop of various hormones and physiological changes being triggered throughout the body (i.e. various aspects of fight-or-flight)? I would think a brain, on its own, would have a great deal of difficulty interpreting anything when there is no sensory feedback. After all, Marcus wouldn't even be aware of his cocoon or the fact he has no body - he's in a sensory null-state.
In reality, even if a person were to lose all conscious sensory ability, I would think there would still be autonomic systems influencing how the body (and thus the brain) operates in response to the brain's thoughts. That can't be happening here, because we (as impartial observers) recognize that there are no other structures attached to interface meaningfully with the brain.

I have no mouth, and I must Scream.
