6436567 Quite so. I credit a great part of my love for science fiction to finding my father's complete run of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars series. While by current standards they may be horribly cliche' they're also the stories where the cliche' originated. ERB had a positive talent for adventure fiction that few have approached after all. Which is a good part of why I jumped on a compilation of the first five Barsoom novels when I saw it in the discount racks at Barnes & Noble.
