Missing The Light

MISSING THE LIGHT...

My hooves click on the sidewalk
As ponies hurry by
I am trotting along so effortlessly
As though I haven't got to try

I wander down a staircase
Round a corner, then a bend
Not knowing where I'm going
But I haven't got time to spend

I bump into some mares
And stop to apologize
But when I move to look at them
Nopony turned their eyes

I shrug it off
And roam away
I walk and wander till night falls
And ends this dying day

I am crossing a street
In the darkness of the night
When A chariot is speeding towards me
I can only close my eyes in fright

After some time went by
My thoughts stopped feeding lies
I struggled against my will
And opened up my eyes

Moments ago
I'd thought I'd breathed my last
I know not how it happened
But the chariot had gone right past

Something caught my attention
It stood alluring in the dark
My hooves pulled me closer
To see a strange eerie park

Upon walking inside
I found dirt sealed rooms
For standing before me
We're hundreds of tombs

I read a few
But was drawn to just one
Now any happiness
Was certainly done

My mind no longer mine
As it displayed a wretched sight
Gruesome images flashed in my brain
From a past night

Troubled and stubborn
I stumbled away
At the time not knowing
That I was meant to stay

I left that damned place
As sanity began to seep
Untill collapsing at a bus stop
And just staying there to sleep

The words on that stone
Said I'd passed away
In a fire
And was left there to lay

I was awoken the next morning
As my eyes were met with light
But when I was conscious
I found a peculiar sight

A stallion and filly were before me
The younger no older than 6 or 5
But what caught my attention
Was she stared at me but was alive

She raised her hoof in a wave
Then her father turned around
But it was quickly evident
He couldn't see me laying on the ground

I got up on my hooves
Her eyes followed with each move
But the fact that she could see me
Seemed difficult to prove

I was shocked when she spoke
Just a simple "hello"
Soon we were conversing
Though the stallion would never know

Her father said "it's time to go"
And leave her made up friend
But somepony who can talk to me
Is not a thing that just can end

Years went by from then
And I stayed by her side
I helped her through the struggle
Caught every tear she cried

Twenty three years of friendship
Seemed a little time gone by
When she caught an illness
And my friend began to die

She lay still in the hospital
Color fading from her mane
I had forgotten how it felt
As my heart was feeling pain

My body went numb
Seven days beside that bed
When the medics couldn't save her
And my lifelong friend was dead

I tore out of that place
In search of that one lost
But when I finally found her
Then what hit me was the cost

I stood there and realized
She doesn't remember what I know
And at that very moment
A strange illumination began to show

I started towards her
But was completed in my thought
The pain had caught me frozen
An returned the feelings I had fought

If she stayed with me
Then she'd share my fate
I needed to decide
Before it was too late

I hid away the feeling
As I made up my mind
I ducked around a corner
Where I she could not find

I watched as she went further
Each step my heart would ache
But I knew If I stopped her
It would be a selfish mistake

It's been years since she moved on
My feelings are more tame
I am still alone here
And things will never be the same

So I've wandered Equestria
Every day, every night,
All this because
I missed the light...
