Ouch, what Celestia did here was downright cruel. She purposely let Cadence (or rather, gave her the option to) take Twilight's virginity before telling her everything. That's definitely worth an Evil Overlord lifetime achievement award, followed by the customary slow clap from the audience; and that's not even mentioning the centuries long gambit she just admitted to pulling off.
Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this. It's subtle, but it definitely feels like Celestia is insinuating that the mental health of her fellow alicorns is more important to her than anything, especially her mortal subjects. Enough so that she appears to have little problem using them as pawns in order to teach her niece a lesson. This includes Twilight of all ponies, whom for all intensive purposes probably feels like she just got raped by a pony she's loved and trusted her entire life. And if Celestia's even willing to use Twilight in this manner, a pony whom, to all appearances, she truly and deeply cares for; not to mention the pony that redeemed her sister and saved her kingdom countless times in the past, a pony she all but raised herself... then she can do this to anyone, no one is safe, and that is terrifying.
Nope. Still no sympathy for Cadence. Yes, Celestia did some shady stuff, but she did it for a noble cause. Yeah, saving her baby sister, but at the same time, Nightmare Moon would have destroyed everything, so Tia as quite literally trying to save the world. In doing so, she stretched her morals.
Cadence, on the other hand, has been doing this all for her own gain. She may say it was for love, but so far, her actions remind me more of a junkie trying to get a fix. She is only trying to ensure that she is happy.
So, yeah, still hoping this all blows up in her face.
5853406 Oh, I don't have any sympathy for Cadence. Pity, maybe, but not sympathy. But think about it, Celestia could have just as easily told Twilight before she and Cadence had sex. She did this intentionally, in order to damage the relationship between Twilight and Cadence as much as possible. Despite the fact that this little event could mentally traumatize Twilight, no matter how you excuse it, that's just plain cold.
I do hope someone calls Celestia out on this. Even better if that someone is Twilight herself.
5853503 Celestia used her plan to save a nation and every pony in it (several times over), plus her sister, and to save Cadance too. Cadance was just filling her bed with her own blood descendants in a vain effort to hang onto a lost love. No sympathy for Cadance here.
I have to wonder about Celestia's timing with bringing this to an end. Doing it right after they had sex is... well, awful of her. I can imagine a couple reasons for doing so, but they're pretty unlikely.
5853473 Yeah, but Celestia's project wasn't about getting her children (and children's children, etc.) to breed her new lovers. Her's was more... impersonal. Up until the present day, that is. And as she pointed out, she tried many times to convince Cadance to stop. Yeah, she used Cadance here--but she wouldn't actually need her to manipulate the right ponies together. Celestia used Cadance's project both as a way of getting the unicorn she needed and to put an end to Cadance's... obsession.
I'm not saying it isn't frightfully cold of her, but I don't find it hypocritical.
It's actually not clear if Celestia meant for them to be together prior to this confrontation. After all, if Twilight had brought up her meeting with Celestia before the roll in the hay, it probably wouldn't have happened. Celestia may have used Cadance, but some of the cruelty here doesn't seem to be intentional.
but celestia didn't lie. in the previous chapter, she met with twilight and had her make a choice. it may not have made sense at the time, but the bare minimum was met.

Celestia kinda comes off as a hypocrite. For all her words against Cadence's project she still used it to craft a unicorn who could free Luna.
Wait.... does that mean that Sunset was part of the line too, or just an outlier?
5853441
True, true. But still, cadance doesn't deserve to find happiness.
5853473
Cadence did what she did to fill a yawning, insatiable gap in her psyche. Celestia proceeded to use that to produce Twilight Sparkle.
Is -anyone- right in that kind of situation?

And Luna tried to kill everyone because ponies didn't like her.
Maybe alicorns are just assholes.
I'm not sure who's more wrong here. Celestia's hypocrisy is pretty stunning.

5853878 Form what we've seen in this story the evidence seems to suggest that.
