In the elite circles of Canterlot, cultured music is one of the essential luxuries for anypony with status. Octavia Philharmonica is one of the foremost classical musicians in Canterlot. Her music is at the very pinnacle of her profession, her performances highly sought after, and her talents attract a steady string of wealthy and influential patrons. Her talent, however, is not always enough on its own; occasionally, her job demands more. For the sake of pleasing one of her patrons, she must perform for a charity concert—a collaborative concert with her dubstep-loving friend Vinyl Scratch.
She and Vinyl must find a way to weave their genres together to create a new style of music for their patrons, all while maneuvering the tricky and underhoofed backstage politics of Canterlot society and the musical world.

3178512 IF Night Light is sleeping around and their marriage was arranged as it is implied (or possibly out and out stated, I don't remember) then his wife almost certainly knows exactly what he gets up to. And she probably does it too.
This was fantastic. I loved the way you handled the characters, the cutthroat music industry felt natural (I think this is a big part of why Lyra is performing in the park), and the story was handled beautifully.
Also, this got me thinking about Lyra again and I am really hoping to see her interact with Octavia at some point. I can easily see them getting together for an improvised duet if the tour takes Tavi to Ponyville or if Lyra is playing on one of her trips to Canterlot, and there is a nice new opening for a Lyrist to solve that whole job issue she has going on right now.
Yeah, okay. Having read the first chapter I'm calling Vinyl Night Light's bastard offspring.
Now the mystery becomes whether Shiny is Dinky's dad or not ;)

If Twilight Velvet is indeed aware of Scratch's origins, and is yet alright with Quill Scratch being a common and active part of hers and her husband's life, I propose that Quill is more than simply a friend of the family, and personal secretary -- They totally have/did have the occasional threesome! Assuming Scratch is in her early twenties or so, than she'd have to have been conceived between the births of Shining Armour and Twilight Sparkle....or perhaps Twilight was even conceived at that same time!

Anyway, it's always interesting to see the different interpretations of the dynamics between these two, and you certainly did not disappoint.

More seriously, going into chapter 3 I was starting to suspect a possible fake-out with the whole Night Light thing and have it turn out that Fancy Pants is Vinyl's father (and possibly Shining Armor's, too) but the interaction at the end doesn't really have that tone.
In The Study of a Winning Pony, Cloud Kicker confess Twilight about having banging Twi´s half sister, and talks her about the rumors of Night Light´s illicit affairs outside his marriage (much to her disbelief).
So, it was Vinyl al along.

These details we're getting about the Sparkle family make me think that the eventual revelation of who Dinky's father is might actually go over fairly well. Seriously though, I really enjoyed this story! Vinyl and Tavi have a great dynamic like always. I find it kind of funny that in the winningverse, where everyone's banging, Vinyl and Tavi are just friends. This is of course, not a bad thing.
