"You know," Discord said abruptly. "Something just occurred to me."
"What's that?" Celestia asked, still unhappy about how Discord had just dropped the rather sordid prophecy mess on Spike.
The draconequus picked up the book of prophecies and squinted at the one involving Spike. "The prophecy said, specifically, that Spike will never hook up with the beautiful white-coated purple-maned unicorn with three diamonds for a cutie mark of his dreams, ever, right?"
"That's right," Celestia said with a sigh. "The poor thing. It wouldn't surprise me if he becomes driven to evil as a result of this. It's happened before..."
"There aren't any prophecies about him turning evil in this book," Discord said, flipping through the pages.
"That doesn't mean there isn't a prophecy written about it somewhere. And lots of things happen that aren't necessarily prophesized," Celestia pointed out.
"True," Discord said, slamming the book shut. "However, something you seem to be forgetting, Celestia, is that most prophecies have loopholes. They're tricky that way."
Celestia frowned. "I'm well aware of that, Discord."
"Are you?" the Chaos god asked, raising an eyebrow. "Then how'd you miss something like this?" He flipped open the book again and read from the page about Spike. "'Also, the dragon will never, ever, ever hook up with the beautiful white-coated purple-maned unicorn with three diamonds for a cutie mark of his dreams. Ever.'"
"Right," Celestia said unhappily. "Spike will never be with Rarity. At least he still has the Crusaders."
"No, no, look. The prophecy doesn't specifically say Rarity's name, does it?" Discord said.
Celestia frowned. "That rule lawyering isn't going to work in this case. What other beautiful white-coated purple-maned unicorn with three diamonds for a cutie mark does Spike have a crush on?"
"None," Discord said. "But Celestia, you're forgetting...Rarity routinely bathes in dragon blood to give herself longevity, and eventually, immortality. And what side-effects do you get if a pony bathes long enough in dragon blood?"
Celestia's eyes widened in astonishment...and slowly, a delighted grin crept across her face.
I get the distinct impression I'm missing something in regards to Discord's last statement there. :|
3111695 Try the comments section for Ri2's new story about Trixie.
I'll save you some time: Do a search for my username.
But pink clashes with purple!
3111695 Basically he's implying Rarity will become part-dragon. Ergo, she's not a white Unicorn anymore.
3111897 It does?
Interesting. I like it. Discord does love looking for them loopholes.
Wish there was a discord face. Oh, wait...

3111897 ... No it doesn't.
Does Rarity kill dragons for their blood? Is she the Equestrian´s Countess Báthory?
3113198 Nah, Spike is the voluntary blood donor, so it's all alright.
3113239
I understand, she merely tricks a child dragon, smaller in size than her, using her femenine charms, to periodically dry from his blood in order to cheat old age and death a bit more. Uff, I was worried for a moment.

3112075 Oh. OH. XD Well, somebody go tell Spike 'fore he does somethin' ill-advised. XD
3112868 Yep. That's our Discord.
3113198 What? No, didn't you read Who Wants to Live Forever? Spike gives her dragon blood.
3113253 Yeah, that's Rarity for you. Most generous pony in all of Equestria.
What's that horrible alien monster?
3113266 Is telling him now the right thing to do? After all, it'll be years before the effects start showing.
*snerk*
You can indeed. You can indeed...
3113853 Indeed what?
You (rhetorically) asked if you could do that (i.e. give Spike an out) in the author's notes.
3114382 Ah. And I did.
3113684 Crushing someone's hopes and dreams -that- fast? Yes, telling them now is the right thing to do. Wait too long, and you may not have the opportunity :C
3115038 That's true. What's the best way to breach the subject?
3115059 In this hypothetical scenario, as HRH Sunbutt? (I love calling her that. )
I would guess there's two ways. Sit him down for a straightforward talk, point out what she and Discord discussed, lay it out for him. Maybe send him on his way with a reassuring pat on the back, a 'Go get 'er, Tiger', and a pack of condoms. XD
The other method would be perhaps trying to Xanatos Gambit him into reading a book about the effects of bathing in Dragon blood, and ... somehow... cajole him into doing so about the same time he's reading about the prophecy, see if he can 'connect the dots', as it were.
Why do you ask? Planning to stretch this story a bit more? Lookin' forward to it if'n ya are.
3115769 Sunbutt!
A condom? Isn't it a bit early for that?
You think I should make more chapters?
3116165 I would not be adverse to more chapters. I like the story. Ultimately, you should write for yourself. Do you feel more chapters would be a good thing?
3116259 I'll think about it.
3131726 Penis? Where?
SECUEL, SECUEL, SECUEL!
3153778 Well, I'm eventually going to write a conclusion. Just not now.
Speaking of loopholes that prophecy only says Spike is going to be Twilight's assistant forever, but wasn't he technically acting as Twilight's assistant in the Crystal Empire? So he could still very well have a life full of adventure and heroics, he just has to be helping Twilight well he does it.
Sure he won't get any recognition but come on this is Equestria. Celestia has a big ceremony where she basically tells everyone the Mane 6 are national heroes and Canterlot citizens where still willing to be douches just cause their from Ponyville.
3158958 That is another plausible loophole.
Considering Rarity doesn't love Spike and is just using him to gain immortality, maybe it's best Spike get the hell away from Equestria.
3244063 Who says she doesn't like him?
3244172 Thanks.
The thing about Spike abuse is that it can be funny, but only if it is very, very clear that it's all just a big silly joke. In a wacky, nutty spoof like Airplane, a Mel Brooks movie, or "Friendship is Witchcraft", it's hilarious as long as the humor is funny rather than mean-spirited (only two FiW episodes succeed here, unfortunately). But in a universe that's as fleshed-out and [moderately] serious with its characters as yours is, it becomes just a bit too real for any character's suffering to be comical. There's a line between comical misfortune and ... um, unfortunate misfortune, and it can be tricky to detect. Especially when people all have different ideas on where to draw that line, and the fanon universe in question is still evolving.
I'd like to see where this goes, so have a fave and watch. I'll admit that Spike is the only character who's future I'm interested in when it comes to your fanfiction, but I hope that doesn't hold you back from enjoying everything else you write.
3269823 Yeah, I may have overdone it here...hence why I'm trying to amend his fate a little. Thanks for reading.
