    Windchaser's Stories (6)

In the many years after the Conversion Bureaus' shutdown, Twilight Sparkle is tasked by the Princesses with finding the last living human on Earth, Isaac Hamilton, and learning the story of his past. What she hears is a tale of loss, tragedy, joy, and the discovery of one's place in the world. But how much longer would that place last with what Twilight has to tell him?

I don't always read TCB fics, but when I do, I read Last Man Standing.

Seriously though, this is a damn fine fic. After I read it, I didn't bother with any other TCB stories, because I knew that this was basically the best of all possible stories - and also because I don't really like that setting all that much. But the way Isaac goes out in the end... tears. :fluttercry:

Come to think of it... wasn't there a sequel to this story? I remember reading the first chapter or two. Any plans to upload that here?

There isn't a sequel. Videomaster 21XX wrote a spin-off that I was helping him with, so that I could make sure I had input on for quality control. I do not consider it canon to my story.

    >>8953

I'm deciding to remove the epilogue for more than obvious reasons. The main reason being that it was a horrible idea to begin with. The story ended on such a note that an epilogue would have just removed the lasting effects of the final scene. So I am essentially retconning the epilogue.

I do not know, it was good enough ending with a 'happy ending' persay, but, it feels like something is missing, like there is more that has not been touched on yet.

Quill's clone was never mentioned as serviving, or being killed, leaving a hole in the epilog.

In truth, I am expecting there might be a sequal to this story, though I do not know for sure. There are too many loose ends that need to be tied up, and having pulled so hard at peoples heartstrings for poor Windchaser, we want to see him having a good future. Allmost a little something, 30 years in the future, a little scene, Windchaser, and his family, up on that mountian, talking, as Wind tells his own foals his personal history, and how he came to be the stallion he is. Tieing the loose ends up, giving closure, if you will, to the readers.

I will say this for sure: I don't plan on writing a sequel. What happens after the epilogue is up to the reader.

Regarding Quincy's clone: Frank ordered it destroyed once Quincy was forcibly ponified in the interrogation room. Frank's sanity was questionable at best at that point, so his decision making abilities were already beginning to break down.

    >>14899

While I did write the older epilogue first, I didn't like how I did it then. It was rushed, had clunky story progression, and was poorly thought through. Though my main issue with it was that it was only downhill after the final scene from the main story. No real emotional pull at any point in the old epilogue. I decided to remedy this in this new version, playing it out through a new progression of events and culminating with the birthday party. I feel much better with the way it ends with this updated epilogue than how I did with the old one.

Sorry to break it to you... but the story is completely finished. I will not be writing any more chapters for it.

As for the original epilogue... it followed the new epilogue for the most part until lil'WC got home. Instead of the party, SyRE played him the recording of his father's interview with Twilight. The next day, he realizes that both of his best friends are the clones of his father's dead friends and his teacher is the only one still alive. Twilight comes by to explain everything, and that's about it. If you really want to read it yourself, you can check my deviantart profile (windchaser1.deviantart.com) and check my gallery. It should still be in there somewhere.

Windchaser, your story has tugged on my heartstrings tonight. It was truly an amazing story, and had it been a book I would buy a copy. I really gotta say that this story was the best I have seen out of any fanfic I have ever read so far. From the moment that I started reading I was hooked. And I must say that I am very glad that I happened to have chanced upon it.  Personally I can only wish that perhaps Isaac's immunity to ponification had been effected oddly by the purification, causing him to have become a pony rather than died. That being said however I think you ended it succinctly. My hat is off to you both as a brony and a writer.

I can answer the question about Quincy with certainty: he was rescued from the IHSA base after the bombing the night that he was forcibly transformed. The other two questions I did not explicitly state in the epilogue, but for all intents and purposes, yes he does find out. I don't plan to expand on it much, however. I wanted to include it in the epilogue, but I saw no place to put it. But yes, he does indeed find out from SyRE from listening to the recordings of Isaac's interview.

As much as i try to say what i feel right now, i can't, simply because the story, the lovely characters that seemed to be alive, everything has shattered my heart as it ended. Not on the bad way though. On the good way that i enjoyed so much reading this, that i shared emotions whith the characters and had a feeling of loss when someone died or got hurt.

I must say that you, as a writer, acomplished your mission: i felt the story as if it was real, i got emotional, and iust thank you for that, sicerely.

I also cried so much when Isaac and Windchaser were separated that i couldn't talk for hours, the story was into my head replaying, but i also laughed so much when they were having fun, i was happy for them. I created such connection with a character on this story like never before, no other fanfiction or book ever did this to me, and that is why i consider this the best fanfic i've ever read.

Thank you so much again for writing this and if anyone ask me for a story, i'll recomend this one without hesitation

I only had to read the introduction (before the jump to the past) to know that this story was going to be great. This level of work is very professional compared to most fan-fictions I have read. I am always fascinated with dystopian worlds (Fahrenheit 451, 1984, etc), mainly because I am captivated with the author's perception of the ever-changing world around them. To be thrown with a seemingly utopian world in the midst of destruction--it's hitting a level of deep psychological and philosophical debate. The way how the people respond is believable--some that are too focused with the present and others that feel it is an insult to their well being.

This is a brilliant piece, and I plan to thoroughly enjoy reading every bit of it.

You have played with all the elements every good story has: unique characters, deep insight, and emotion. People don't even have to be fans of MLP to understand the level of this work--there's a lesson we can all grasp from this.

Thank you for sharing this piece of art with me and to everyone else. I enjoyed the ride.

My good sir. I have read some of the most disturbing grimdark to come out the hooves of my fellow bronys, I have read some of the most emotional work that I believe I will evener experience. You have done more than anything else has for me before, you made me cry tears, both of sadness and joy at once, not jsut a few, but many, and that does not happen often with me.:pinkiesad2::fluttercry:

This is perhaps one of the best stories that I have ever read. I look forward to your future work.

    Thank you, just..thank you.

GOD DAMN IT, I CANT BRING MYSELF TO READ THE CONVERSION BUREAU. Humans are wonderful creatures, we may fight but really war is at an all time low and the only places war take place in are third world countries. HOW could ANYONE be willing to throw away there humanity just because the fuckin ponies are 'peaceful'. why would anyone be so ignorant and pathetic as to do such a thing. If I lived in this universe, If I were the last human on earth, even though I love mlp, I would DESTROY canterlot and possibly all of equestria. and you know what, I would ENJOY it. :twilightangry2:

Holy hell, as I said before on the EqD page, this isn't a fan fiction - it's an experience. It was such a joy to read this story - this brought me to tears and beyond.

I wish you the best a man can wish upon another for writing this ineffable masterpiece.

    @silver

What you say is highly debatable, but you are completely ignoring the main point. It's not just because the ponies are "peaceful"--the future is at the brink of destroying itself. Resources are low, a disease is killing millions, jobs are scarce...conversion seems like the only solution to run away from all the dangers. Everyone does not possess the ability to logically think their way through their actions; most people would throw away what they had (which was near nothing) just to get something better.

The idea of Conversion Bureaus is to spark the idea of a world coming to a collapse where a faint light of hope seems to glow in the path to prosperity. It is suppose to be full of philosophical ideas. If you didn't like Fahrenheit 451, 1984, or (the lesser known) The Feed, then obviously this story is not for you.

A masterpiece in its own right. Even with minor spelling, I was blown away. I look up to you and hope to be half the writer you are one day.

Remember reading this one a few weeks ago through an old link on EqD and rediscovered it here on FiM Fiction. This fic was increadible. When the story finally ended, I think my mind went blank for a few minutes. In my book this fic is among the very top of all Conversion Bureau fics and I've read a lot of them.

The most distressing part with this fic was scrolling down the page, because each line you passed reminded me that I was coming ever closer to the end. Opening the last chapter was a painful process, because one knew that this was it, the last chapter in a great story. The end was written with style and the characters were sent off with dignity, a deed worthy of a great round of applause.

Now that I've found your account Windchaser, I'll start to keep an eye on your other works and future stories. You are an author worth keeping an eye on.
