What is Cozy Glow?
After several false publishing hiccups, caused largely by the clumsiness of this phone based interface, I have finally published chapter 34, "The Wraiths Attack," of Fools and Drunks. I apologize for any inconvenience caused by these hiccups, and I hope that you enjoy the new chapter.
Introduction
I am completely aware that no argument I make here is likely to be supported by canon. The Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters is in its origin a playset (which is the Doylist reason why it has the prank trapdoors), and the production team is hardly composed of demographers or historians. Nor would I expect it to be, for a children's show.
I published Chapter 31 "A Parley Before Battle" of Fools and Drunks. I understand it's not showing in the feed, so I just unpublished and republished it (it's okay, as there were no comments on it anyway yet). If you can't see it in your feed, the link above to the chapter title should take you there.
Hope you all like it.
I published Chapter 27: "At the Mercy of Gladstone" of Fools and Drunks but accidentally unpublished it. It's back up now, so check it out!
An important thing to remember about cultures if one intends to write about the same culture at different times in history is that cultures evolve -- which is to say, they change slowly and in a broadly adaptive fashion. Significant cultural change is generally slow, on the timescale of a single normal life; it is broadly adaptive, in that customs which are useful to the survival, success and reproduction of individuals or subcultures will tend to spread through the cultures, while
Fools and Drunks Chapter 17: "Another Murder," has now been published.
In which Grey Hoof seems to recover his sanity, Ruby and Roneo go on a quest, and a final fatal mistake is made.
My new wireless keyboard for my phone, a Christmas gift from my wife Rosanna, has arrived! I've been using this and find it very easy to type on, much easier than using the tiny touch screen keyboard on the phone. I've brought chapter 17 of Fools and Drunks up to almost 4200 words, and am within some 2000 words of being able to publish the chapter.
In Chapter 15 of Fools and Drunks, "Pride Goeth Before Many Falls," we learn something of Roneo and Starlet, their betrothal plans, and Starlet's opinion of recent events. Mitta tries to persuade Grey Hoof to confess, and tells Ruby of how her attempt went. And, while the rustic Ponies of Sunney Towne lay their little schemes and make their plans, their doom
In Chapter 14 of Fools and Drunks, "Secrets Kept From Kin," Ruby Gift returns to Sunney Towne shaken by Ravenwood's revelations about the fatal patrol. Now she is torn between her loyalty to Luna and to her own family, and must make a difficult decision about what she should do. But can Ruby really keep her terrible
As fans of this story, in which Snips and Snails/Glittershell venture into the Everfree and become trapped by the Wraiths of Sunney Towne, may have noticed -- I have changed the structure of this story considerably. It was originally meant to be a novelette to novella with a short flashback in the middle; and has now become a novel with a novella-length flashback in the middle. Its current structure could be summarized as:
Three of the less famous inhabitants of Sunney Towne, in part because there was nothing evil in them, and in part because Ruby helped them Pass On before the end of the Century of Darkness.
Mouse Baker (lived 438-500, remained 500-541)
Kind: Earth Pony. Sex: Male. Born YOH 438. Died: 500. Rose: 500. Passed: 541.
Introduction:
I've been writing a lot about Sunney Towne (my spelling), the ghost village created in Story of the Blanks, so I thought a history, genealogy and character listing would be useful. This post has the history
I. Origins of Sunney Towne:
In which Ruby reveals more of the Tragickal History of Sunney Towne -- how the Mark-Pox afflicted them, how Grey Hoof began his descent into madness, and how Ruby was befriended by Princess Luna -- thus unwittingly bringing the last piece into play needed for the Doom That Came To Sunney Towne.
Chapter 11, "The Shadow Over Sunney Towne."
I just posted "The Rise of Sunney Towne," which is Chapter 10 of Fools and Drunks. Originally, this was one long chapter called "The Tragickal History of Sunney Towne," but when I realized that it was over six thousand words long and looked to be ten thousand, I decided to split it into two chapters -- Chapter 11,
In which we get to know Ruby's mother, and Ruby's mother suffers an embarrassing loss of self-control. "Mitta Gift."
In "Ruby's Sanctum," Ruby Gift leads Glittershell back into her labyrinth, and beyond into her Sanctum. What terrors lurk in the wraith-crypt?
