How to write Action Scenes + A small tip on how to be a better RolePlayer · 4:58am Dec 4th, 2015

As a couple of friends have asked me, especially when I were to describe a scene that I imagined from a game, but with more detail, or even a re-writing of some events that happened in a D&D game I run/ran, some of my friends have said... "Wow man. That's kind of believable. I mean, minus the magic, or the crazy stuff. How'd you think of it without it being so friggin' long or ... drab?"

Writing Fights: How To Make Your Action Exciting · 5:03pm Nov 1st, 2016

This is a public service announcement: action scenes in fanfiction are endangered. While many authors have produced helpful resources to teach new authors the importance of characterization, plot, worldbuilding, and other fictional staples, relatively few have sat down with the intent of trying to teach kids how to make a kung fu badass punching a wolf into an interesting and exciting scene to read.

Do you focus on the Action or Characterization/Motivation in an Action Scene? · 2:20pm Dec 4th, 2014

Good day,

I was inspired to write this after seeing a post questing whether it was the action in an action scene that mattered more or the motives and characters behind the action. I think it’s an interesting topic that has changed over the past few hundred years. There are two secrets to writing at work here.

Right, I know most don't actually read these things so I'm not sure how effective this will be but, I gotta ask if anyone is interested in giving tips for writing to a newcomer. I'm mainly interested in action scenes and description writing, by that I mean how one would start and how the author gets the appearance of a person or setting without being extremely convoluted or wordy.

Concerning My Little Rainbows... · 4:12pm Aug 9th, 2013

As the title suggests, this is about my second most followed story after "Rainbows don't give up!", "My Little Rainbows".

One major reason for the lack of updates of the story is that the next chapter (the one I posted a chapter teaser for) contains something I cannot write: action.
I find it very difficult to write like this, which is why my stories generally rely on dialogue rather than action.

The Bad News: Underhive 733 And Griffon Story Cancellation · 9:12pm Jul 17th, 2022

I'm going to be honest: I can't write my planned Griffon story. And for related reasons, I can't write Underhive 733. Basically, it boils down to interest and writer's block. I am not interested in reading stories that are all canon or all OCs. I need a human, or some sort of outsider, for the story to be enjoyable enough to read. There are a few exceptions to this, but not many. As for writing a story: if I am not interested enough in reading it, I most definitely am not interested in writing

That Moment When · 2:16am Dec 2nd, 2015

You're trying to write your story, and you have it all planned, and you know how it will begin, the conflict, the dialogues, the tension, the actions, the plot twists, the ending, and the sequel, and you know what you want to say and how to say it and why you'll say it.

And then the words just don't form.

Like, they just don't want to be.

Comedy Assistance: Advice, Please · 1:48pm Dec 5th, 2020

Hello, everyone. I am trying to make comedy my first thing in "Dawn Before Twilight", and...well...it's not my greatest strength, really. It's flat, I might say.

I am looking for advice on how to write comedy. Give me some tips on where to begin, how to write a funny sentence, etc. Because, well, my only known strength is action and adventure stories. Comedy stories is not among them, but I try my best in various fields on writing stories.

Time to Duel Again! · 9:23am Oct 23rd, 2014

Quick update on things. I now know EXACTLY what I'm doing with the next chapter of Many Futures. And it's a duel.

Truth be told, I hadn't initially planned on writing a duel. However, with how things are going, it seemed like a good opportunity to feature Aki in action. On top of this, I'm ridiculously pleased with how the duel turned out in the end. I wasn't happy when I started outlining the duel, but now I am very happy that I wrote it.

Writingcraft: Anatomy of an Action Scene · 4:54am May 18th, 2013

So I’m gonna start making some writing advice/process blogs, since I’ve been requested to do so for a few things. I’m hardly an expert at writing; I’ve only been doing it with any regularity since last October, in which time I’ve written around 230,000 words. Now sure that sounds like a lot, but there’s an old saw that to become an expert at anything, you need to spend 10,000 hours practicing a craft to really know how to do it.

By Luna's gorgeous tail! Did I just submit a new chapter? I think it turned out okay... All joking aside, this took me for freaking ever! I'm still not happy with the exposition, but it's as good as I was able to make it. Oddly, I was a lot more comfortable writing the action scenes than... this. How does that even work? Action scenes are supposed to be one of the hardest to write! Wonder if all that time watching Dragonball, DBZ, Bleach, One Peice, Elfen Lied, Gundam, playing Fable: The Lost

I need someone who can write action, knows about G-Witch and can also teach how to write action me so I don't have to rely on them all the time in case they're busy.

If anyone knows where I can ask for help that would be nice

So, I got a question for everyone. When you read a fanfic, do you imagine the way you think that it would look as if it was an animation? Like, when I write for mine I imagine a sort of EG,Disney, action cartoon. Kinda like Steven Universe maybe, colorful, smooth, and light hearted, but at the same time filled with action and drama. Idk. It's a weird question. But, how do you imagine the way the characters look just by the words in a fanfic?

MLP fanfic story · 4:56pm Oct 9th, 2017

I've been trying to do my own MLP fanfic story of my own.
Earth to Equis: Equestrian Destiny
But I'm actually stuck on how to write the pony characters' behavior and actions.
My own character is basically myself, of course.
The cast of MLP get somehow changed into their characters.
So it starts on Earth, goes to Equis/Equestria and also goes into Fallout Equestria.

Almost 10k. (Around 9400-9500 words due to discrepancies in the word counter and the listed actual words) so I was close to my guess on word count.

Also I guess it's Bastille Day in France so happy that.

Some stuff about Writin'. · 2:37am Jun 28th, 2013

So, Chapter 2 of The End of All That Was is finished and now in the editing phase, and work begins on the next chapter. But as I sit here staring at a blank page in a Google doc entitled "Chapter 3", swirling a glass of merlot as if I'm classy, I feel compelled to jot down some words about the process of writing, mainly because nothing else is coming to mind.

So!

I'm all moved in, as I've said before, and I've actually reached my first reading week.

So why the fuck haven't I updated?

See, the issue here isn't on what's going to happen in this chapter. I've had it planned out for a good while.

The issue is a mechanical one. I've had to write and rewrite a dozen or so times so far, because I'm simply not happy with how it looks.

Writer's Workshop #13: Action, Emotion, and Scenes/Sequels · 1:20am Feb 19th, 2015

A lot of my posts so far have been focused on the wide picture. Theming, character arcs, pacing. But what do you do when you get down to the nitty-gritty and want to start writing scenes? Thankfully, I've got just the answer for that, too! It's called scenes and sequels. But before I get to that, I want to talk a little bit about action scenes. Specifically, how extremely boring they are. Have you ever been watching a fight scene or a chase scene in a movie where you started drumming your
