Quick update here, nothing exciting!
A few folks gave me a shoulder-tap to say most of the images in the online version of Empathy for the Devil had an error message. Long story short, it's all fixed, and I'm gonna be (politely and respectfully) whining to FIMfic staff to update their image hosting features.
“Maybe I shouldn’t write about maternity wards.” That was the statement that set off this spiral of thinking. Out of context, it’s just a single statement, but with context about what was said, by whom, to whom… things get weird. Which I suppose is fairly normal, but honestly, in the case, context matters. Which is also why I’m not going to give it until later.
I recently published a funny/silly short story with a friendship moral.
The moral was shown (not told) that you can be friends and friendly to other ponies, even if it’s someone different and inferior to yourself. The story used Celestia and Twilight (and with slight contrast from Luna) as good examples of being nice, while having an OC as inferior.
Needless to say it got downvoted into oblivion with 100% pure downvotes! (Not a single upvote.)
Read on for the full patch notes, including the status of Limestone’s 100ft Life.
Feels so good to be back! For those who don't know: since Empathy chapters are releasing every other day, on off days we have bonus features. Bevin and I both are total nerds for commentary tracks, so this is our version of that!
Q: No Other Sunset??? What? How? Why?!
Complete is such a great word, isn’t it?
Gonna link to the soundtrack up front this time! New party tunes have been added, go enjoy some music if it’s your thing.
Q: How do you feel after finishing this long passion project?
Bevin has commissions open!! You like the art in Empathy for the Devil? Go support a great artist and get some of your own 🎨
Here's some examples of what people have commissioned in the past of cannon characters and/or OCs:
Some enchanted evening, eh? Well I've got something even more enchanting for you! The ever fabulous Bookish Delight talking about how to write romance! Bookish is not only a writer I admire and have learned a great deal from, but more importantly a close friend both Bevin and I love very dearly.
General question: What goes into writing romance for you?
So the next chapter of Sunlight Theory is in editing hell. As in, I hate it and have been obsessively making micro edits until I hate it less enough to post. I'm just showing my face here because I want to point you to a great new fic to tide you over while I rewrite* rephrase the chapter for the 100th time.
Let's have some fun because why not?
If these little bonus feature posts aren't your thing, no problem, we'll see you tomorrow for chapter 2's release! I thought it would be fun for us since so much of the reason Empathy even exists is because of Bevin and I dorking out back and forth, so here's a taste of what that's kinda like!
We kind of really got into answering our first question:
MARVEL: Okay, might as well start with
Chapter 2 is out and that means it's time for some bonus content!
Q: How much does Bevin know?
MARVEL: This is a really fun question for me. I think most people, if they think about it, would assume Bevin knows the whole story front to back, everything that's going to happen. Total. Lie.
Too busy feeling dead inside to be bothered to acknowledge anything. Everything feels insignificant, things I once loved and cared about, hobbies, interests, emotions, reactions...they all feel equally as meaningless. Laughing and trying to remember what having a sense of humour is like is like taking an ice bath. Self-expression gets harder and near to difficult the longer the negativity is present, and it slowly consumes what is left of the person it holds as a host. It swallows feelings,
Haha, happy fun times are happening! Yup! Nothing emotionally charged happening here ::clown horn honk::
Let's lighten the mood.
Q: So the boys, huh? Why do you love Timber and Flash?
BEVIN: The eternal question!
Q: What does the process of illustrating a chapter look like?
Welcome back readers! It’s Monday, and another Being a Better Writer article is upon us! Though first, I do have two bits of news. Don’t worry, they’re both short.

Greetings from Alaska, readers! Yes, that's right, I'm home visiting my parents for a few days. And old friends. It's fantastic. I flew in Sunday morning, after a nice long layover in Seattle which was most of my Saturday. As usual, the trip to my hometown was roughly a full day's journey. That was okay, however, as I'd brought my WiiU with me.
There's no other way to say it: I wrote a novel.
After a year and five months, I wrote the words THE END on a full story. A book.
