With a theme of "Just This Once," May 2022 was a good month for the Flashfic contest, with ten stories entered in Loganberry's Flashfic 150 contest (unless I miscounted ), of which nine qualified as MOFA entries. (The difference is because I can't accept my own entry to Loganberry's contest as a MOFA entry.)
Do you like flash fiction? I like very short stories too!
I'd like to run a flash fiction contest, but I don't like to do WORK. Well, sometimes I don't want to.
On the other hand, who doesn't like telling people what to think sharing their opinions with others complimenting other people?
The January 2022 contest prompt was especially dear to my heart: "Break the Rules!" with an optional challenge of "Write a story that also breaks at least one 'rule' about how to write. Preferably, write a story that isn't made worse by breaking the rule, but instead uses its freedom to good effect."

Ember stared at the piece of parchment in her hands.
"This is stupid," she said, puffing coils of smoke from her nostrils. Lying beside her, Twilight giggled into the piece of the duvet she had pressed against her muzzle.
"Only if we're playing antonyms," she replied, her voice dripping with delight.
"Well we're not," snapped Ember, folding her arms. "So it is."
Just a reminder/signal boost about the monthly Flashfic contest, where people write 150- words about a prompt every month.

If chapter lengths of Arcane Realms are any indication, writing short stories is not my forte. Some of you may share the sentiment - you have an idea, think you can wrap it in a nice 2-3k words, then something happens and you're suddenly publishing hundreds of thousands characters. Oh, the humanity, where have I erred?
It's been a while since I had a go at one of the Weekly Contests, er, contests. Their latest one (#25 -- here if you want to have a look yourself) had the prompt "Round and Round" and a maximum of 200 words. (A minimum of ten, incidentally, so at least one fic I've written wouldn't have fulfilled that criterion!) For this one, I knocked up a quick piece called

There ended up being ten entries for the "Round and Round" flashfic contest, and I'm pleased to say that "Just Visiting" came in second. Considering it's ages since I've entered any sort of contest, let alone a flashfic one, I'm really quite

You can put your normal-length story on fimfiction.net the normal way, OR use the contest's unusual blog option that lets you enter a story under 1000 words.
Last time I checked, only one story has been entered so far, so I guess your chances are wide open!
I begin this year with a new mini project. One that I wanted to participate in for more than 2 and a half years already, ever since I saw it first, but could not find the time nor the concentration for, because life was showing its ugliest side to me.
