Moonlight is a female bat pony, and one of the protagonists of Arc 4 in the Tales of Shadows and Stars series.

Appearance

Moonlight has a moderate opal coat. Her tail and mane are moderate mulberry with hints of silver. The webbing of her bat wings are dark purple, while the bones in her wings are moderate purple. Her eyes are moderate mulberry, with thin black pupils. She often changes the length of her mane and tail, from having it short in a pixie cut to growing it long enough to be tied back. Her cutie mark is of a moderate violet, four-pointed star overlapping a medium grey crescent moon. She is below average height. She has recognisable tufts on her ears. 

In her Umbrum form, her fur, mane, tail, wing membranes and eyes glow in their natural colour, and she appears to be surrounded by moving shadows.

Ordinarily, Moonlight is not seen wearing clothes, accessories or make-up. On special occasions, she will dress up and put more effort into her appearance, although this is rare. After siding with and becoming engaged to King Sombra, she is sometimes seen wearing a suit of enchanted dark silver armour similar in design to Sombra’s own.

Abilities
Spell casting - Moonlight had 1000 years of free time on the moon to fill. When you happen to be banished with an alicorn with huge amounts of magical knowledge collected over hundreds of years, it provides a few opportunities to learn magic.
Dark magic - as with her abilities to cast light spells, Moonlight is able to cast dark magic spells quite easily. However, this was probably influenced by her hatred towards Celestia as dark magic can become stronger based on the emotions used when casting spells.
Deception - Moonlight has a very good "poker face," and is actually very good at card games for this reason. She is able to bluff quite easily and pretend that she is more confident than she actually is. Of course, King Sombra and others who either use mind magic or can sense emotions easily can see through this. However, the majority of ponies are liable to fall for her tricks.
Card games - she is known for being able to win at poker.
Quick decision making - Moonlight makes a lot of choices in the heat of the moment. In some incidences she is more successful than others.
Dreamwalking - Moonlight can Dreamwalk, but is not as good at manipulating dreams as Wishbone, Sombra or Luna.

Personality
Moonlight is kind, caring, and loveable around family and friends, with a sense of humour. However, she can be quite feisty at times, with fearless determination. Also, she sometimes isn’t sure where the boundary is between annoying somepony and frightening them half to death, or when to stop holding a grudge. (Then again, if we think about it, Moonlight wouldn’t have any grudges to hold with anypony if Celestia had just ruled properly, not stolen the limelight from her sister and accidentally started a short civil war that lasted for two weeks before NMM was banished.)

She is sometimes a little ditzy and has a habit of acting before thinking things through - which can have both positive and negative effects, depending on the circumstances. Despite this, though, she is able to rely on her friends and family when times are tough.
