Vic Caroli as Tirac from My Little Pony: Rescue at Midnight Castle.

This creepy centaur is the first villain of the franchise and boy, does he leave an impact. His raspy voice, his plan to turn ponies into demonic creatures to pull his chariot, his plot to bring about eternal darkness, his mistreatment of Scorpan and Spike...I could go on. Any G1 Brony and Pegasister reading this is probably having flashbacks to nightmares they had of this guy. Caroli gives him a voice that fits well with imposing profile. And can i just say that Tirac is the first MLP villain to usedecapitation as a threat?! That's right, for when Scorpan fails to capture a fourth pony, Tirac gives him one more chance and threatens to behead Spike should he screw that chance up. Not to mention his design has been described to be satanic inspired, even said to be the Devil himself as a centaur. If the creators of RaMC were looking to make an impression, they certainly did.

When the fourth generation rolled around, Hasbro had lost rights to a lot of to their G1 properties, so it came as a shock to many when the makers of MLP: FiM managed to revamp him. Meet Mark Acheson as Tirek.

Tirek's design was updated to be less satanic looking so he looks like a mishmash of a simian and a bovine, but that doesn't mean he lost his touch. Since his original plan was given to Nightmare Moon, his goal this time is to drain all of ponydom of their magic, which increases his size upon doing so, (not to mention deepens his voice) and makes him invincible. While Tirac was no pushover, he often relied on minions to do his dirty work; here Tirek is an army unto himself, enough so that Discord, the MLP equivalent of Q from Star Trek: The Next Generation is tasked with going after him...and yet, upon capturing him, Tirek manages to smooth talk Discord into not only releasing him, but forming an alliance...and then betrays him when he no longer needs him. How often is it that we see a puppet master played like a puppet themselves?

Tirek has four different forms: 1) his weak and shriveled form is what we're introduced to; 2) his second form is meant to be a throwback to Tirac, and he spends the majority of season 9 in this form; 3) his third form he gains after absorbing enough magic from unicorns, pegasai, and earth ponies; and 4) his most powerful form comes when he absorbs enough magic to break off the bracelets on his wrists. In the near grand finale, he's halfway between his third and fourth forms.

Another aspect to being a double V, double S, is how close he comes to winning. In Twilight's Kingdom, Twilight is the only pony left that has magic, they fight in a climatic duel that destroys most of the atmosphere around them, Tirek bargains her friends for said magic, and proceeds to go on a rampage. Were it not for Twilight discovering her key to unlock the chest, the series would've had a downer ending. There's also his one-sided battle with the Pillars and how close he comes to winning, but that's another story as he isn't alone there.

So I got us started. What about the rest of you? What dark villain(s) do you want to discuss?
