Oh right... 'that' Miguel Ferrer. Okay, now I get it. Now I know who he is.

Are those really the only movies he was known for? Huh... what a pity.

7863605
The latter also voiced Badger in the Rankin Bass variant of Wind in the Willows, and the former voiced Tarakudo, King of the Shadowkhan from Jackie Chan Adventures.

Yeah, I haven't seen the Jackie Chan show in a long time and I barely remember most of the cast outside from Jackie, the grandpa, the niece, the sumo guy... and I think there was a luchadore.

And apparently, Tom Hanks is also a distant cousin of Walt Disney himself.

another positive note on his legacy!

Well, I suppose that does make sense considering that he was asked to portray Walt Disney himself in that one movie about Mary Poppins' author. Some fans liked that portrayal, others not so much. But still, it was a nice honor to be able to portray someone he knows.

7863628
What!? Tom Hanks is the distant cousin of Walt Disney himself? Whoa, I didn't see that coming. But where did you learn that? Ancestry or something?

I read things.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Ancestry.com. You won't believe what people are willing to offer just to learn more about the family beyond their own.

* Giancarlo Esposito (Phantom Blot, Moff Gideon) made an early role in the 1989 hood drama Do The Right Thing, a Spike Lee joint, also starring Lee. He plays a jaded and irate black man named Buggin' Out, who complains about the Italian pizzeria's picture walls containing Italian celebrities instead of blacks in a black New York hood. He is then arrested for instigating a riot that destroyed the pizzeria, driving the owners out of business.

Funny. The first time I ever heard of him was when he was introduced as one of the antagonists in Breaking Bad. The dude is a very talented actor.

7868691
Whoa. First I've heard of this.

7868703
Sure is. He was even in Far Cry 6 as the main antagonist, Anton Castillo.

Dramamaster829

7868735
Yes, I recognized his image anywhere. The dude is mostly known for playing bad guys. And even when he's not a villain, sometimes most of his characters still get killed off. Like in that 'Jungle Book' remake for example.

7868691
huh, guess his influence extends beyond that galaxy far far away

7868691
Do The Right Thing? Huh, never heard of it, but hey I might check it out & see what the early years of Moff Gideon was like.

It's a hood movie that tells us that literally everyone can be racist.

Giancarlo's character is a racist idiot trying to be Malcolm X, who complains about some lousy pictures in a pizzeria, while the pizzeria owner and his son are racists who refuse to compromise with the blacks.

Also, Sam Jackson's in it too. Here's a clip. Watch at your risk.

Honestly guys, I feel like we're getting a little heavy in adult territory with this one. This is a Disney based MLP forum after all.

* Albert Brooks (Tom in Taxi Driver, Marlin in Finding Nemo), is Jewish. He shares his name with Albert Einstein. He changed his name to "Brooks", an English surname, to avoid confusion.

I could tell by the voice that he was Jewish, something about the tone left me that impression but I wasn't entirely sure. But could you imagine this? Sharing your name with a famous scientist and the case of mistaken identity? Like a sample of possible reincarnation? You think that sounds flustering, imagine sharing the same name as Pablo Picasso and everyone expects you to be an artist like him.

How about that?

That's like sharing the same name as Michael Jordan but turns out you don't really play basketball.

They'd play 'Hakuna Matata' at Disney Trivia whenever we go. I kill it with 'Eye to Eye' on those nights, and I swear some people filmed my performance. Though whether they actually posted those vids or not, I never know. But it's nice that they like to see me perform even though I'm just doing what I enjoy.

Celebrities who appeared in Disney media
** William Shatner (The Wild), appeared in the 1961 Stanley Kramer court drama film, Judgment at Nuremberg, starring Spencer Tracy and Burt Lancaster. He plays a Captain Byers. The film is a fictionalized account of the notorious Nuremberg court that tried the war criminals of the Nazi regime before an Allied judge. It was preserved in the National Film Registry.

That is true, the one Disney project Shatner was involved with was 'The Wild'. It was one of his villainous roles he portrayed in his career, a wildebeest who sought to change the food chain by being the first to consume an animal. Yeah... that was pretty messed up. Definitely made the wildebeest in 'The Lion King' look tame... despite the infamous stampede scene.

7888001
I hated that film for being a disservice to the lion. A member of their species chickened away from a pair of rabid dogs because of its cheap comedy kid-friendly rating. Not even a roar to scare them away. I didn't see a lion in Sam but a scaredy cat. Compare that to Simba fighting ravenous hyenas without backing down.

Dramamaster829

7888004
There's a reason why 'The Wild' is not among the best films made by Disney, not just adding to the fact it's outside the Walt Disney Animation Studios line-up. And you see how empty New York City looked? And I thought 'Oliver and Company' had that slim problem during the chase scene at the end. I mean yeah there was a whole 'budget' thing, but realistically, even though I hate that word... do you know what I'm talking about?

7888015
Also the comparison to Madagascar, which is what I vastly preferred over because the character designs are appropriate with the slapstick comedy. Also, unlike Samson, Alex fought a pack of fossa and didn't back down, at the same time the fight was hilarious, a real balance if you ask me. Also, how the old lady handled Alex was way funnier than how Sam chickened out from puny dogs.

Dramamaster829

7888023
Fair point... I see where Madagascar prevails over The Wild, that much is obvious. I mean there's no mistaking 'Madagascar' was more energetic, and I do like the slapstick. Although at times, even 'Madagascar' gets a little 'too' looney at times especially when it tries to go for something serious. It's either very brief or it becomes 'too funny' to really feel for when the characters are at their lowest point.

I’ve seen it. it’s a pretty good movie

7887998
William Shatner was also in an episode of The Twilight Zone called Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.
"There's... something... on the wing... some... thing."

I think one of the Madagascar movies referenced that episode. It's only one of the Twilight Zone's most popular movies. A guy who's so scared of flying that he thinks a Gremlin is on one of the wings.

7888360
The second one, Escape 2 Africa.

I wasn't asking for a specific movie in the line-up. But yes, I am well aware of that reference all too well. Mort is often the butt of jokes in these cases. I'm surprised if he even 'has' fans.

Did you know the actress who voiced Rapunzel played this Simpson character? Imagine that was Rapunzel talking and singing.

Is that a fact? I hadn't had a clue about this part. But yes, the actress is certainly a talented singer. You definitely don't see National Anthem like this nowadays.
