Greetings, everyone! Mr. J is back with another movie review! Today, I will be talking about Space Jam, a live-action/animation sports comdey film from 1996. As someone who grew up watching Looney Tunes and Boomerang, this is one of my favorite Looney Tunes films of my childhood and a film that always gives me a smile every time I look back on it. In light of the upcoming sequel that will be released soon as well as the recently released trailer thereof, I thought it would be relevant for me to talk of what I really enjoyed out of this film.

First off, I really enjoyed Michael Jordon’s performance in the movie although I do admit I’m not really the biggest fan of the former professional basketball player. Still, I found his performance in this really enjoyable and entertaining. Equally entertaining were the performances of Wayne Knight as Stan Podolak and Danny DeVito as Swackhammer.

The animation was really solid and well done as well as the amusing cinematography. Also, props to James Newton Howard for the catchy music he made for the film.

As for the Looney Tune characters, I loved seeing Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the gang working together (in a goofy, amusing manner as usual) as they fight against their alien enemies who steal the experienced abilities of the basketball players in order to become basketball players themselves: the Mon-Stars. Speaking of whom, those alien twerps were a bit annoying but still amusing. I wouldn’t say that I have a favorite amongst them, but I found them all to be amusingly serviceable characters.

As for Swackhammer, he was one hell of an antagonist! In other words, he was full of charisma and personality while also being short-tempered and cruel. His sense of humor was a hit and miss for me though but still entertaining nonetheless. Danny DeVito sounded like he was having a fun time voicing him.

The story for me was really interesting and simple enough for me to follow along. This was basically my first time watching an animation/live-action movie when I was a kid. Ever since I watched it for the first time during my childhood, I always loved it and still do to this day. As a matter of fact, this was the very movie that introduced me the very concept of crossovers. If it weren’t for this wonderful gem, I would’ve never loved or appreciated crossovers in general. It eventually led me to be a crossover master fanatic.

Although it isn’t perfect, it is one of my favorite childhood favorites that deserves a 9/10!
