Well, the speculation is over, Joe Biden has officially tossed his hat into the ring and joined the crowded field for the 2020 Democratic primaries. Early polling suggests he is an obvious front runner, not just against fellow Democrats but also against Donald Trump in a general election mashup.

Place your bets, how long do you think he'll last? Does Biden have any chance, will he be among the first to drop out, or will he try to stick around for a little longer this time (last time he ran he bowed out after a disappointing showing in the Iowa Caucus and underwhelming fundraising).

Personally, I think Biden's time has come and gone. Two or three decades ago he'd be a leftist, probably even a radical leftist given what he's advocating for now. But in this day and age he's a symbol of past politics, more of a return to what we had before Trump rather than a clear path forward after Trump. Not only does he seem content with traditional fundraising, but there's also his age (of all the Democrat candidates he is by far the oldest, even older than Sanders and Warren), and of course the allegations of him getting too personal with women.

I imagine name recognition and support from within the party (super delegates) will prop him up for a while. But if he's to stand any chance he'd have to basically reinvent himself completely and become something he's not. I don't think he'll be the first to go though, already a lot of the more obscure candidates are struggling to make a name for themselves (such as Booker and Harris). He'll probably try to hang on until at least the Iowa Caucus, but by then if he's not at least in a close second he'll bow out.

He’s gonna be the next Jeb. Between the inappropriate touching, the Crime Bill, and the Iraq War, Biden’s gonna end up being more trashed than Hillary.

I think Biden will last for a while, but eventually his tendency to make gaffes and his terrible political record will sink his campaign. He's ran for president twice before and only lasted 3 months the first time, and only made it to the Iowa caucus the second time. I suspect he might last as far as the Iowa caucus this time, but not much longer than that.

(Blatantly ignores the man who's been the front runner this whole time.)

But that's okay. We're all in this together.
Here, I did something to commemorate Joe joining the race:

6839030 That's as far as I can see him going, maybe the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries if he's absolutely lucky.

Nice. The moment I heard Biden had finally announced he's running I made another donation to Bernie's campaign too.

Well, it looks like we were all wrong. Kudos to Biden for staging a political comeback on par with Bill Clinton's 1992 primary performance. But sadly, it seems that Biden decided to be one of those Democrats still scarred by the 80's who feel like they have to temper down their policies to try and win a few people over from the right.

Bernie Sanders was right when he said that no matter who Democrats elect, the GOP are gonna call them a bunch of crazy socialists. Perhaps it's time to focus on the groups crucial to Democratic victories, rather than try to peal off voters who care more about restricting abortion or juicing up the economy artifically.

I get the feeling this article's got it right and we're gonna see four years of no reforms or improvement for the average working people, especially since it looks like the Republicans will probably maintain their majority in the Senate.

7366296 I guess it's just time to face facts, the American experiment is now a zero sum game. As Trump made it clear with his nomination of Barret, the belief he and the GOP subscribe to and one the Democrats may have no choice but to embrace is simply: When you have the votes you can do whatever you want regardless of what the public thinks.

At least hopefully this will disuade Democrats from any sort of alliance with "Never Trumpers" on a permanent basis. Just like in 2016 it didn't matter how many of them stood up and said they would never support him, far too many within the party were all too happy to embrace him and what he stood for regardless of future consequences.

I've been saying this for a while on other websites, and I'll say it here too. When the final results are in, I don't think it'll matter whether Trump wins again or Biden wins. Both will do whatever their rich donors want, and neither seem to care about the people.

7366456 Biden was being pushed to the left even while he insisted he fought off the left, his presidency was going to be challenged by progressives and he was going to have to decide whether he believed he owed more to them or the "never-Trumpers". But now it doesn't matter, the GOP Senate will refuse anyone he puts forward unless it's someone they believe will do nothing. The GOP will have effectively crippled the Biden administration with their hypocrisy, so Democrats better be ready to fight in 2022, and fight from the left. If the GOP really wanna go back to being the party of obstruction it's time for Biden and the DNC to realize that in the 21st century of politics the only rule of the game is simple, do whatever it takes to get your supporters fired up, there are no real swing voters left anymore.
