there are plenty of stories that don’t do crossovers, if they can’t read a fiction based on a few chapters that have other displaced, then how do the even watch any shows, to me, that seems the same as disliking an entire show based on one episode, despite previously enjoying the show.

Its not that, its just people don't know how to handle cross-overs and thus it derails the plot or worse the author never updates after one cross-over.
