I mean truly - this site has a problem in that pony porn is extremely prevalent on a site which has a lot of children searching around for MLP stories to read. And it does not require any sort of age validation to get to the clop. Furthermore, anyone who does not want clop to show up in their searches, but likes other kinds of "mature" stories has no option. Marking your own war story as "mature" is a sure way to kill its chances of being seen by anyone wanting to avoid clop. Why not just have an "erotica" tag for clop stories and require age validation to view it? Or have a separate domain for the clop stories. I mean, fine, a lot of people like clop, but I think those people forget that this site is popular with children. That is not a good mix. Adult sites try to keep children entirely off-site for a reason.

The most obvious opposition would be the site owner not wanting to do the work. He has other priorities, including the rest of his life, and this would be work.
The transition is also messy, as all existing M/sex stories would have to be presumptively tagged as Clop, and maybe also mature themes just to be safe. Authors could correct their own works, but there are various reasons some never would. So then older works are mistagged, and the system is unreliable. (At least it should be consistently overtagged though)

I'm pro tags, but these are the obvious downsides to me.

It would take five minutes to create a new tag called "Erotica" and then run an update query like so:

UPDATE Stories SET Erotica = True WHERE Rating = 'Mature' AND Sex = True

Also, rename the Gore tag to something more meaningful like "Violence".

And have a trigger on Erotica to flip Rating = 'Mature' automatically if Erotica is set to True.

Then, create the site filter where users can choose to filter out stories with the Erotica tag. Another five minutes, since the mechanism already exists for Mature as it is.

Update the FAQ/Rules. Five minutes.

Insert a generic age-validation script to the toggle which allows Erotica and make sure it's off by default. Fifteen minutes.

Disable Erotica in searches by User GUEST. One minute.

There. In 32 minutes the problem is solved and children are protected from having clop show up in their searches.

In addition, it may be helpful to run a content query on all stories to set the tags to erotica if there are too many occurrences of certain key words or phrases that show up reliably in clop, and update those stories to Erotica as well. It would be super easy to create a list of such stories that were currently not tagged as Mature-Sex and then have some volunteers go over them to verify whether they are indeed clop or not.

In the age of fast computers and relational databases, there is no excuse for things being mistagged.
