This forum is an in-depth look at the social and historical background of the Orc Tribes: 4130 for Man of War. Though every topic may not be looked into completely, additions will be added as time goes on. If you have any questions, or wish to have something brought up, feel free to post a question.

The Pit

There are five orc tribes that are located around a massive canyon/gully formation known as The Pit. The Pit itself takes up what was once China, southern Russia, and much of Mongolia. The tribes can be found throughout the canyon walls on the edge of the Pit all around, and even some areas nearby. Orc lands used to stretch from the Oceans of Walls, to what is now the Griffin Colonies. Throughout history, a majority of races have waged war against the orc kind, pushing their borders back further and further until now they reside on the edge of The Pit.

Due to this, not much is known about the insides of the Orc lands. trade is non-existent while most outsiders usually flee or attack. The golden era of Orc supremacy has faded into history, though many orcs believe their return as the apex species will return. Because in the Pit, only the strongest survive.

Strength, Respect, and Hunger

Each tribe of the orc nation is ruled by a single Chief. These five chiefs in turn submit to Oni, the God King of the Orcs. Anyone may take any of these titles though. Any may challenge for the right to be Chief, and only a Chief may challenge Oni. Only in death can one claim the right of title. It's unknown how, but Oni has been leader for nearly four thousand years now. Many have challenged him throughout this time. Oni has taken a single fang from each of the fallen foes in turn, though it is unknown why.

Many claim that the primitive society is not developed enough to be called a nation, but never to an orc. Many, if not all, of the inner workings of orc culture are a mystery to the outside world.

Orcs and Ogres

Orcs on average stand at nine and a half feet tall as bipedal beings. A long, alligator like tail follows lazily behind them. Their faces are a peculiar kind. Many compare them to that of a smushed up pig. They don't have much hair other than what grows on their head; as the rest of their body is covered in leathery skin or scales. Everything about them is meant to give the feeling of an apex predator. Large K9's, naturally strong muscles, and a strict meat diet. They are one of the few species to constantly wear clothing.

According to Orclore, orcs live their lives in one of three stages. Offspring, Orc, Ogre.

Offspring are the young of the group. From infants to their teen years they live under all other orcs. They are not considered anything other than that, underlings. They don't become an Orc until they prove themselves in The Hunt (Males) or have their first offspring (Females). Though they are expected at a young age to be able to fend for themselves, they rely on their mothers to provide by means of regurgitation until they can do so.

Most of the Orc Tribes live out their days as an orc. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it may be improved upon. Males are expected to provide not only for their mates and offspring's, but for the tribe as a whole. Females are meant to safeguard and raise the young. Many of the remedial task; such as cooking, leather working, the production of tools, tending to livestock, and education are left to them, though it is not uncommon for males to aid in this as well. Compared to each other, the males are set higher than the females in societal views. Orcs do not mate for pleasure. A heat cycle occurs once a year in which females may attempt to have offspring.

A male orc may achieve the title of Ogre by various means. The chief may appoint this title for various reasons, like valor or a particularly large kill. Oni may appoint as well, though these Ogres tend to be held in higher regard than others. If an orc kill the chief, he becomes an Ogre by rights of chiefdom. If a community feels one is deserving, they may bestow it upon the individual together. Many will submit to the authority of an Ogre, nearly at the same level of the chief. Depending on the reasons for ascension.

Orclore

Orclore is one part the history of the orcs, and one part their religion.

It is said that all life crawled it's way out of the Pit. Those that were the weakest to escape the hells within, ran the furthest away. Only did the orcs show the strength and resolve to remain near. A single Ogre rose above the rest and unified the five tribes at the dawn of their Exodus. Oni, an Ogre whose voice could crumble mountains and fists strong enough to ripe an orc apart. Through sheer strength did he kill the first chiefs and begin his reign, giving a tremendous yell that echoed through the entirety of the Pit. It's said his skin turned red with the blood of the first five chiefs, living proof of his right to rule.

From this point on, The Voice has become a focal point in all aspects of life. When a newborn is delivered, family members will raise their voices in joy. When a foe is defeated, an orc will scream so others know of his victory. To the outside world, it seems barbaric, primitive even. For the orcs, each yell echoes in them and resonates their story. The Voice is considered a form of communication in the truest nature.

Following Oni's ascension to power, came The Followers Of Oni (Abalandeli Oni). These orcs and Ogres worship Oni as their deity, delivering unto him sacrifices of rarity. Silver does, Phoenix hearts, horns of unicorns, the deadlier of the catch the more honor they bring. Abalandeli will often take the the blood of their kill and paint themselves with it in detailed markings. Before battles, they will also paint themselves as well, mos notably setting a red hand print over their face.

The Hunt refers to a time honored tradition of hunting. Orcs, contrary to popular belief, respect their kills. A teaching of Oni:

A kill brings life to all. Those that kill for joy, will reap that that they seek.

Before every Hunt, orcs will start a small fire and mark their bodies with the ash as a sign of that they seek to avoid. Ruin. When an orc makes a kill, it is their honor that they devour the heart; to share its life. They then take the blood and mark their bodies with it, to symbolize the sacrifice. when one Hunts with another, they are joined for life. All further Hunts will involve the two when possible (so long as they are within vicinity it is deemed possible).
