To be perfectly fair, it is not entirely accurate to refer to Troggles (also known as Mongrelfolk) as a single race, species, or genus. While some Troggles can breed true, the term itself is a catch-all for sapient creatures born directly from magical tampering, meaning that they were created by (usually corrupt) magic users, a practice now illegal across the world.

NOTE- Illithids, Skaven, His'kra, Corbies, Dire Corbies, and Velka, while similar in origin to the Troggles, are not precisely considered as such by most. The reasoning behind this varies, but the most commonly accepted reason is that their changes happened over time and with some amount of care (Illithids, His'kra, Corbies, Dire Corbies, and Velka), or else because the magic tampering was not deliberate or direct (Skaven).

Whether one-off experiments or part of a particular "product line", Troggles prefer to keep to their own kind, staking out places on the edges of society, sequestering themselves in ghettos and sewers to avoid notice. Urban Troggles may rely on begging and pickpocketing to get by, but some form rural communities near trading routes, and Klugetown was actually founded by Troggles, and remains the largest population found anywhere.

Since most strains began as the product of evil magic users who were then abandoned, Troggles pride themselves in the ability to survive; they consider the title “The Survivor” to be more esteemed than “The Great”. For them, patience is a greater virtue than being good at the arts of war, and so when a warlord conquers a population of Troggles, they simply fall back on their pride of survival, slow to rebel and patiently waiting for the overthrow of their masters. Klugetown was a decent example of this mindset, as day-to-day life before, during, and after the Storm King's reign has changed very little, beyond the type of currency used.
