Parasimian

Native to the Forest Peninsula of the Unnamed Southern Continent, Parasimians are fully adapted for an arboreal lifestyle. They have forward-facing eyes on the front of the skull, which allows binocular vision for accurate distance perception. The large paws have two opposable digits (the first and second, which are opposable to the other three) that allow them to grasp small branches. Parasimians have friction ridges on their paws. The animal has a sturdy skeleton and a short, muscular upper body with proportionately long upper limbs that contribute to its climbing and grasping abilities. They have a cartilaginous pad at the end of the spine that makes it more comfortable when they perch in the fork of a tree.

Another unique feature of the Nightstalkers is their intelligence. Nightstalkers not only show animal cunning, but can learn how to use weapons made by sapient races. They can also mimic words, and can assign meanings to them, though actual sentences seem to be beyond their grasp at the minute.

DICYNODONTS

Burrowfuzz

Native to Bumbleland, in spring, the burrowfuzzes awake from their long hibernation, and scurry around searching for mosses and ferns to feed on. Some they eat but most of what they collect they store for the winter in special caches. This season is also the birthing season, where hundreds of young are born. In this season, individuals who stray from the burrows territory begin the process of excavating a new burrow where future populations will be born. This burst flushes the carnivore population to as this readily available food source become available. The acceleration of this population boom is astounding, however in the mid summer breeding practically halts. In the mid summer the population is at it’s peak and disease are running amok. These diseases and predation cut down the population until only the hardiest individuals are left and ready to survive the winter months in hibernation. The few that begin hibernation sleep in a huge communal sleeping quarter to conserve heat. These individuals literally pile on top of each other. Heart rates slow and metabolisms drop to near death. Every few weeks the swarm arises to eat and to switch positions in the heap. As spring comes again the swarm surfaces to breed like maniacs and to restore their food cache for another winter.

FALSE TROLLS

Common Deathclaw

native to Concordia, Deathclaws are powerful animals. They are quite large, growing up to 8-10 feet in height. They are hypercarnivores and ambush predators, preying on game of all shapes and sizes. Prey is killed by powerful swipes of their namesake claws, which can grow to a foot in length, and although their teeth are large and their jaws powerful, Deathclaws only occasionally use them when seizing prey. Their sense of smell and hearing is excellent, but their eyesight is poor.

Deathclaws are social creatures, living in groups ranging anywhere between 8 and a nightmarish 20 individuals, although lone Deathclaws are not uncommon. They live by a social hierarchy led by an alpha male, who is the only one allowed to breed with the females. They are sexually dimorphic; males have longer horns than females, which curve forward, and are used in intraspecific combat. Males range from a sandy beige to a dark olive color, while females are greyish-blue. Females are also slightly larger than males, have backward curving horns, a thicker neck, larger teeth, and a large speckled dewlap. Deathclaws are oviparous, with the eggs typically laid in dark, sheltered locations and fiercely guarded by their mother. Young deathclaws reach maturity under the care of their parents, following them closely until they are old enough to fend for themselves.

Deathclaws are fully bipedal, something that helps the animal from dulling their massive claws.
