Mane Color/Style/Length: Emerl bears a dark emerald colored mane, parted down the middle and falling on either side of his face. It arches from a widow's peak to either side, falling just past the bottom of his eyes. His tail flows back in a slightly shaggy style, colored the same as his mane, and reaching to his calves.

Coat Description: His coat is a deep and rich shade of brown, not quite dark but not really light.

Eye Shape/Color: He bears eyes of a fairly ordinary shape, colored a firm slate-gray shade. When his emotions surge, a bright chartreuse light swirls in his eyes, ranging from a faint glimmer to fully illuminating his eyes with the green glow, depending on the strength of the emotions.

Accessories: Optional to include a green scarf, matching the color of his mane and tail, depending on the story, this can be a longtime possession of his or an item he commissioned from Rarity, regardless it would be a prized item of his. Allegiance: Having a strong sense of justice, Emerl has nothing but respect for the royal sisters. Both of them. Depending on the story he might side with Discord, particularly if Discord is a good guy, even if siding with him could possibly mean Emerl would have to 'play' as a villain. Regardless, he is on the side of good, should he even get involved in such grand sorts of conflicts.

Cutie Mark: I am inclined to have Emerl not have a Cutie Mark at the outset of stories. Not to say that I don't have one planned. Whether he has one at the outset, or gains it over the course of the story, it would be this: A deep green shield with a whirlwind/hurricane pattern engraved on it. Along that shield, running from the top to about three quarters of the way down is a crack, nearly splitting the shield in two. The sides of this shield would blur in places, seemingly dissipating and streaking out in the appearance of mist, as though the shield were solidified fog that was slowly breaking apart.

Special Talent: Emerl's mark represents a couple of attributes. First and foremost it displays his affinity for wind magic, shown by the hurricane marking. His wind magic is where he excels while being only extraordinarily average in most other magic types. The shield it is emblazoned upon shows he would never hesitate to use to protect those around him. It is more so for those he cares about, but really, he can't just stand by and which while anypony is in trouble. The crack running along the shield represents the fact that he is unyielding in the face of harm and damage to himself. Whether he be inexperienced or facing an opponent that is simply that much more powerful than him, if he takes bodily harm, so long as he's not in a destroyed state of mind, he will push unyieldingly forward, even if it could mean his death. Lastly, the trails of mist running from the edges of the shield represent deception. He is in some senses a compulsive liar. While he never behaves or treats anypony contrary to his true feelings, his real self always being on full display, he keeps up a wall of lies surrounding his past, and is able to craft believable lies to cover the parts of his past that he is ashamed of. His lies are not malicious, and he is never untruthful in any sense except in his past. (If he is a ponified human, then his lies stem from not wanting to lose the friends he makes if they realize what he once was, even to the point that he manages to forget his old human name in time, trying to obliterate his old self from his mind and exist purely as Emerl. If he's a ponified human, the mist from the shield also represents the fact that his very existence as a pony is a deception, and he is something entirely different at his core.)

As far as his employment goes, he is not particularly talented in any of his jobs, but is adaptive enough that he is able to perform almost any job at an acceptable level of competence, sometimes with a slight learning curve.

Family: Family is completely open for a writer to include or exclude at their volition, and how they tie into his life is also as such. They could range anywhere from horrible parents to just ordinary ones, and could even very well be a part of his past that he prefers to lie-away.

Friends: Emerl tends to be very amiable with anypony, able to get along with most ponies in a civilized manner, but he has a hard time making really good friends. The ponies he talks the most with tend to be the ones he is employed by or works alongside, and given his job is as a free-agent, he has worked for a great deal many ponies in Ponyville on a variety of small tasks that were needed. It's not that he is against having deep connections with anypony, but he is a bit of a shy stallion too, just open enough to get along, but not quite open enough to have really broken the ice with somepony else beyond exchanging banter or the odd conversation here or there.

Personality: As stated before, Emerl is a bit of a compulsive liar when it comes to his life before Ponyville. The exact details of this are malleable to the story he is included in, but his basic nature is never changed. He is always friendly, though a bit self conscious. He's shy, but not to the point of social ineptitude, it only keeps him from being the one to initiate. Once he's approached he's quite easily able to interact in a polite and respectful way.

His deepest instincts root in helping ponies, which is why he works as a free-agent getting part time work from anypony that will take him. This, however, works towards his true instincts to protect. He would throw himself in harms way for just about anypony, with no care for himself, it is a pure reflex reaction that he has almost no control over, though is far from indicative of a death wish. He doesn't want to die or anything, he simply has no limits in his mind as to how far he should go to protect others. This can play well to the idea of him pretending to be a villain, because he doesn't care what happens to him so long as he is protecting sompeony, and combined with his ability to weave a convincing lie, he could act the role of a villain quite well. When he does have people he cares about, these feelings are amplified even more so.

Despite the roots in fighting that his nature entails, he has a bit of a distaste for harming others. He will always resort to defense first and foremost, and would only Though in a bit of contradiction to that, he has what can almost be described as a lust for the art of combat. Despite not liking to harm others, he finds combat to be one of the most beautiful arts. (Whether magical, hoof-to-hoof, or with weapons like the optional katana) Nothing gives him a thrill like a battle, whether it be a spar or a true and gritty fight, it makes him feel truly alive. It is a rather... conflicting state of mind to have.

[Character History]

Emerl's history is a malleable blank slate for the writer. I originally came up with him as a ponified human character, and that's why there are notes regarding that strewn about the profile skeleton. If he is used as such, then his human history is of even less importance, since it is decidedly ordinary. He has no big problems with his old human life, nor does he have the greatest kind of life ever. He was really a regular joe and winding up in Equestria gave him a life that felt more fulfilling, and he lies to keep that life from being taken away from him.

If he is a native Equestrian pony, then there should undoubtedly be something he is ashamed of in his past, but for the most part, that is something the writer can decide on to fit in with the story however they please. I am not gonna dictate what is done with him other than wanting his personality portrayed properly. Heck, so long as the majority of his core personality remains the same, I don't mind alterations to suit the story in that regard too.

Name: Sovereign Grey Horn (Dark Templar Variant).

Residence: Homeless. Still wondering the world looking for the right place to lay down roots.
Personality: Very cheerful and helpful towards others. Far to trusting, and very gullible. Has developed a slight distrust of mares, due to his tendency to be strung along by them. He's always willing to try just about anything new, though often times fails spectacularly at it.
Cutie Mark: His mark appeared after his horn was severed and he was forced to leave his people. It is a set of broken shackles, which he believed meant he was destined to seek out his own path within the unforgiving real world, outside of the rules of Khalai unicorn society.
Fears: He's not afraid of anything, but it's not because of raw courage. He simply doesn't know enough about the world to know what he should be afraid of yet. This has had bad results more than once. Sometimes fear is a sign of wisdom after all.
Likes: Nice mares that don't drug, poison, kidnap, mind control or manipulate him. Also has a love of the fine arts, music and dance in particular.
Dislikes: He has come to dislike mares who he doesn't know too well yet, as he has been taken advantage of more than once. He has a particular dislike of mares who shoot him in the knee, but has made exceptions to that rule.
Talents: Everything and nothing at the same time. Think of him as a more extreme version of Twilight. He's is well read on just about everything there is to know about everything, but has tried next to nothing first hand and often fails when he finally makes the attempt. The only thing he had any extensive first hand experience with is unicorn magic, but he is no longer able to use it.

History: Sovereigns was part of a group of unicorns called the "Khalai." His role in life as a preserver was to absorb all the memories of the dead. When someone died, he'd remember everything they did in life. The reason for this was so his particular group of unicorns would never truly lose any knowledge. He wasn't the only preserver, he was simply the youngest. Problem with being a preserver is having all those often traumatic last moments sent into your brain every time someone dies takes it toll on ones mental stability.

Like all preservers, he spent his youth in a chamber where he would be cut off from the thoughts of others so he couldn't absorb their memories. He also spent his youth under mental training for the day he would be ready to perform his duties. When he finally began his career as a preserver, it didn't last a year. His friend Seeker accidently put him into a coma, and the only way for him to recover was to remove his horn. With his horn gone, his short live career as a preserver was at an end. Originally destined to be a being of extraordinary power, he quickly found himself cut off from his magic. No longer being of any use to his people, he left to make his own existence.

Unfortunately, he failed utterly. While he had the knowledge of thousands of lifetimes of dead ponies in his memories, he had absolutely zero life experience. The reason is because he grew up in that isolated chamber with next to no social interaction except with his teacher. He has no idea how to lie, or how to tell is someone else is lying. While he had a wide variety of skills from all the dead ponies whose memories he absorbed, (from engineering, to martial arts, to cooking) he has no concept of how to put them to good use. Typically its everyone else tricking him into putting those skills to work for them instead.

As a preserver, he can remember anything simply being hearing or reading it the first time. But he is also very forgetful when it comes to doing something. For example, if he read a book, he could recite it word for word. Yet more than once he's gotten himself in trouble because of stupid things, like forgetting his wallet on nightstand, or other things of that nature. Simply put, he often forgets to remember (if that makes sense).

In his story, the Koprulu Sector, he becomes friends with Sweetie Belle first, and eventually Scootaloo and Apple Bloom as well. They start trying to show him how the world really works, while occasionally taking advantage of his knowledge, or ignorance, for their own gain. It's a hard task, because he is constantly getting himself into trouble, and making one blunder after another. He can relate to them in a way because while he has skills across many areas, like them he tends to mess things up when he actually tries his hand at them.

While he lost the ability to use natural magic, he ended up studying another form of dark magic that didn't require the use of his horn, it simply required he had some form of prior magical expertise. He is still very new at it, and is by no means an expert at the art. Mostly it was a form of magic used by assassins, infiltrators and thieves to stay hidden; such as teleportation, invisibility, seeing in the dark, seeing others who are invisible, and sensing other peoples emotions. While he can sense other peoples emotions, he still hasn't quite learned how to properly interpret them. He's mistaken romantic interest as a hostel advance, and cheerful deception as a sign of sincerity.

He carries a warp blade on his right hoof, an assassination weapon of dark energy, which has given to him by his friend Seeker before he left his people. Ironically it's the same blade that was used to slice off his horn and ruin his life to begin with.

He isn't stupid, he's actually brilliant. He's just VERY inexperienced. Think of him as the ultimate version of the home school shut in.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting tired of Starswirl being the only historical unicorn ever mentioned in fanfics: if a spell was created, it was by Starswirl; if a prophecy was made, it was by Starswirl. As a possible alternative, I'd like to offer an idea I had for a legendary (in the original sense of the word) folk/culture hero from before the founding of Equestria: a wizard-king, sort of a combination of the King Arthur and Merlin myths. (I've also been influenced by the fantasy works of Michael Moorcock, as anyone who understands my user name can probably tell.)

He may have existed exactly as described; he might be an exaggeration of a historical figure; he could be a composite of several individuals; he could just be a collection of stories -- it's all up to you, really. Have fun with him.

Sentai Power: He wields the magical Mobilate, a henshining device, which transforms him into a Gokaired. He keeps the Ranger Keys inside the Gokai Treanger Box, which transports to the Gokai Buckle he kept. Other thing different is the Mobilate dissapears and reappears in Onyx's hoof, which is like the Keyblade. Same goes to every Ranger Key except by electrocution on any thieves.

Backstory: Onyx Key lives in a big city with his family. He's been doing much schoolwork, and never talked alot. He has never made any friends since he's been at school, and he's been teased alot by bullies. He however ignored them the best way he can. He watches and mimics the marital arts moves on Television, and loves watching them than most of the classmates.

At age 17, when super-powered criminals known as Cross Shocker started attacking Manehattan, he was given the powers of the Super Sentai which he was a fan of. He was given the Mobilate, and the Treanger Box stored inside the closet, seen only by him, to combat the minions, and the Monster sent every weekend to combat them, along with the note that explains who is leading the attacker and what the powers do. His sentai secret is kept very safe, and he never let his family know. Sahqo comes from a wealthy family in Canterlot with a good upbringing, he got his cutiemark at the age of 8 when he tried to make a book levitate but made a fire golem instead and put himself on fire. He got into Celestia’s school for gifted unicorns at the age of 10, he excelled in all things fire and outright failed in all things water including swimming. After he made it through school at the age of 18 and he joined the guard for combat training, he got a job as a fire mage teacher in Celestia’s school when he was 25 and at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He joins the Guard when he is needed.
