Following a joint Sino-Northern offensive, Allied forces have been swept off the Korean Peninsula, and the shattered remnants are reorganizing in Japan. The heavy enemy forces are poised to invade the island nation, and doing so would lead to the loss of the final base in East Asia, and the loss of the conflict. We must prevent this invasion from taking place so Japan may exist as a future springboard for operations.

Despite the heavy enemy concentrations, our Navy has gained a good deal of superiority over them, and they lack the ships and harbor facilities to create this fast attack. The only port available to them is the Korean port of Busan, at the southeast tip. The elimination of this port will buy the time necessary to reinforce our positions.

This mission will require total surprise. The main vessel will be an old Spruance heavily modified to resemble a Chinese Type 051 Luda, along with an assortment of other, smaller gunboats to assist in the attack and in transportation. There should be no major warships to obstruct you, and any other vessels will be tied up at dock. There can be no air support or reinforcement; two regular destroyers will escort you across the waters, but will not enter support range. Move in, destroy what you can, and make a retreat before the sun rises.

It will be up to you to choose where to land, what targets to attack (you probably won't get all of them), and what tactics to use. The map and possible objectives are listed and shown below-

Main
-The port itself is the primary target. The International Passenger Terminal has been IDed as a major coordination center for the port activities. Destroy this building, as well.
-Kosin Univ. has been highlighted as the meeting and planning area for the invasion itself. Attack, kill any hostiles, and take any intelligence regarding this.
-There is an assembly area for small, fast invasion craft at the Yachting Center. These are harder to kill and more deadly than the normal transports, and could greatly assist enemy raids in their invasion. Destroy them.
Secondary
-Attack Busan station nearby to hinder enemy movement.
-The command center for the defending enemy division is located at Jayu Wholesale Market, take it out to hinder enemy commands.
-Sinseondae Cliff has a long-range costal artillery battery in position, guarding the entrance. You should be able to slip through, but it will make egress costly. Take it out to secure the route.
-There is a makeshift POW camp at the Pusan Univ. for Foreign Studies.
-There is a makeshift barracks at Korean Maritime univ.
-Attack Gwangan Bridge to hinder enemy movement.
-There is a motor pool in the center of Nam-gu, lightly guarded only by mechanics.

Contact with what ground forces you request to use for this operation, and they shall be considered.

Made up partially for the (late) anniversary of the St. Nazaire Raid. The purpose of this exercise is to test your ability to operate with limited forces, without support fire, and with large objective numbers.

Uh...well the easiest thing would be to copy the St. Nazaire Raid on a larger scale: put a nuke on the ship. But I doubt we would do that. This scenario means that China finally learned how to do amphibious stuff. The mission requires total surprise, however the Chinese skywave radars alone would probably pick up the force. An invasion might be successful in hitting all these targets, but there are too many spread too many miles from the port for an in-and-out attack to work.

But! That never stopped anyone from trying!

Sail right up to the port. Then attack:
#1 The port. It would suck to destroy this in case we want to use it later, but if it's the place where they're preparing their invasion, I guess that's the way it has to be.
#2 Go northeast to Busan Station. Near the water, easy to get to, and functions like the port.
#3 Go northeast to Jayu Market. Nearby, and taking out the command center buys us some time.
#4 Go southeast to liberate the POW camp, adding the prisoners to our forces.
#5 Go east and take out the motor pool.
#6 Go south and attack the artillery from behind. If possible, have the ship meet us there on the way out.

This plan gets us the most targets without backtracking our route.

Unfortunately, it misses two major targets. We already know they're planning to attack, so any intel gathered at Kosin Univ. would be less useful. We might try to use the ship's guns or captured artillery to fire at the location. We also missed the landing craft Yachting Center. They're too far across the city to get to and the attack would be less effective; It's easier for the enemy to build more landing craft than it is to replace buildings.

We could try to use the ship's guns or captured artillery to fire at the barracks at Korean Maritime Univ. on our way out. Should be a closer, easier target than Kosin Univ. Ignore the bridge. Destroying it wouldn't deny them access to anywhere, just make the trip longer.

Sending a ship with a nuke on a kamikaze mission? That's a frightening thought.
