As a member of the Writers and Reviewers Institute for Technical Excellence, you are expected to follow these guidelines:

1) Do NOT post comments on the front page. The only comment on the front page is to contain the guidelines for requesting a review.

2) No pointless threads. Yes, there will be a General Discussion thread, but everything is put there. Don’t create lots of threads that are entirely unrelated to reviewing.

As a reviewer of the Writers and Reviewers Institute for Technical Excellence, you are expected to follow certain guidelines:

1) You will not leave unsolicited reviews on a story with our name or logo on them. Leaving your opinions is fine, as long as you don’t associate yourself officially. If you want to do a long-form review, you must first get permission in a written format. Permission includes anything that is written by the author in which help/feedback/criticism is asked for. So, story description, comments, PM, etc. However, be sure to grab a screenshot of the permission as evidence thereof may need to be provided on request.

2) You will not make attacks against the author. Saying the author is stupid, uneducated, or anything similar is not acceptable. Making observations of the work is how criticism is done, so do try to keep it to a socially acceptable level. In the case of self-inserts or stories regarding the author’s personal life, keep all criticism solely confined to the story.

3) If an author rejects your help or lashes out, keep calm and carry on. Do not instigate a debate with them, just remember that they may not want your help. Politely acknowledge their comment deletion/rage/PM, but do not fuel the fire further.

4) Every time you make a review and use the group’s name, add it to an appropriate folder. This way, it’s easier for us to keep track of how our reviewers are doing.

5) When reviewing, maintain a reasonable quality. Don’t give them a basic “review” that points out a couple vague errors. Think to yourself, “Would this get approved on an application?” If no, either make it better or don’t put our name on it.

6) Every reviewer should have a custom signature, even one as basic as “[insertnamehere] Reviewer.” It makes you identifiable as one of us.

As a member of the eventual Mentors corps (moderator level), you will agree to abide by the previous PLUS the following guidelines:

1) You will not abandon a writer. You do not leave the story until it hits the front page for any reason without first informing an admin of the reasons why, and the admin in question will inform the author that your services are no longer available.

2) If you accept a writer/story, you stay with it. This implies that you will screen the story in question before accepting it.

As an admin, I and anyone else who is assigned to the post will abide by all of the above rules PLUS following guidelines:

1) No decision that affects the entire group may be made unilaterally. The entire group will be consulted whenever possible and will be able to offer opinions and suggestions.

2) Admins will never prejudge a fic or writer on quality or content for purposes of assignment. Admins will always assign stories to reviewers objectively and will attempt to stay within the reviewer’s content preferences whenever possible.

3) Any story that is not accepted within a determined time frame will be reviewed by an admin. No writer who requests a review will leave empty handed.

4) Banning a member without a warning must be for a specific offense, to be laid out in the code of conduct. All other offenses will receive warnings as the severity of the offense merits. No ban or punitive measure may be taken without consulting the other group admins.

Admins reserve the right to rule on anything not specifically listed in the CoC on a case-by-case basis.
