A while back I came across these videos by the Youtube Channel Historical Equestria delving into an interpretation of Equestria's history(and by extension other nations) and another delving into the history of the Zebra Tribes.

5233164 I only said interpreted because I don't know the full extent of the MLP cannon. If it doesn't contradict or borrow heavily from anything the show writers have set up then this can be considered original material.
