"To my most faithful student, Twilight Sparkle: You know I value your judgment, but you simply must stop reading those musty old books!"

"I am fine, sister. Pay no heed to me. Nopony ever does..."

"Of course I'm your friend."

The Prompt: The Princess of Lies

This is a thirty minute writing prompt, meaning you have thirty minutes to finish your story from the time you start writing. You may take as much time as you wish to think, plan, or outline before you begin, but once the first word is on the page, the timer begins. When you are finished, post your story to this thread, and, in the tradition of the TMP mods of yore, I will read and give it a comment when I can.

Traditionally, TMP prompts would have a six to eight-hour window in which to submit, but for these legacy prompts, there will be no limit after the prompt is up. Go ahead and post something a year from now, if you like. Just bear in mind that I'm less likely to respond with feedback to anything submitted more than a day after the prompt. Good luck!

Y'know, I couldn't find a single point since she got her wings that Twilight has actually directly lied about anything. I had to fudge it. Applejack, I'm sorry, but it seems like purple-smart is more honest than you are. :ajsleepy:

3018690 You don't count "Everything is going to be just fine."? :rainbowlaugh:

3018739 Heh. Forgot that there was a couple minutes in the end of S3 that counted, too.

Although, she seemed to believe it herself, so it wasn't so much a lie as just tempting fate.

3018750 Very true. Though she really needs to learn not to tempt fate like that. I like to call "Morning in Ponyville" the "Twilight begs to be struck by lightning" song.

3018690 In fairness, we haven't actually gotten to see all that much of her since "Princess Twilight Sparkle"; she even took the backseat in an episode with her name in the title! XD;

Anyway, I think I may have just the thing for this prompt...part of a larger idea I've been planning for some time now, but I figure if I frame it right it should work. Though just to be on the safe side, I gotta ask: does TMP's rules about how self-contained a story needs to be still apply for these Legacy Prompts? I assume so, but if they're perhaps a bit looser now it might influence what I go with. ^_^

3018956 All the TMP rules about what you can post still apply (though I should point out that I have no power to enforce them). No porn/extreme gore, no going over 2k words, make sure the story can read as a self-contained story. All that jazz.

Hm. That reminds me, actually. I ought to have a link to those rules somewhere.

3018673 SO MANY ANGSTY IDEAS - this is gonna take a while to figure which one to do. :pinkiecrazy:

3018984 So noted. Thanks. ^_^

Oh you guys, am I doomed to be the only one who genuinely liked Magical Mystery Cure? :pinkiehappy: Okay, jokes aside I hope this fits the prompt

Legacy Prompt # 2: Throne of Lies

“We will be together forever, my love,” said the Princess to the Knight but it was a lie.

“Do not listen to stories of yore, about love poisons and fallen empires. We shall rule this kingdom until the end of our days,” the Princess lied, for their days were not the same number.

“I walk the same path as you, my love, only at a slower pace. We will see our children grow together and our manes go grey with time,” the Princess told her husband as he felt time getting heavier over his shoulders.

“I will not cry forever, my dear Shining. I will find another pony to love like you wish and will not spend my days in solitude,” the Princess promised him, holding his hooves tight as he exhaled his last breath.

Now the Princess sits on a throne of lies, forever alone for she refused to ever let the love of another pony touch her, the Princess of Love, with a heart broken for all eternity.

3021099 I didn't mind MMC myself, but I feel like the problems with episodes stumbling over Twilight's princess status is proof that it was an episode that should have happened later in the show's lifetime. But that's neither here nor there. This is about the story.

Very short, but very powerful. I like how each paragraph reveals more specifics about the circumstances, about who the Princess is and why she's lying. You can tell that Cadence is lying to herself more than she is to Shining Armor. Very effective storytelling, and a good take on the prompt.

Legacy Prompt #2: Add Another To The Count

Celestia sat beside the throne, as Luna settled herself on the plush cushion of the throne itself. The sisters looked at each other.

‘What if I make a mess of things?’ spoke Luna’s eyes

‘I trust you,’ said Celestia’s own, and Luna nodded, reassured.

“We declare that the Night Court is open,” said Luna, her voice strong and powerful, and the two unicorn guards opened the doors to admit the first pony.

As Luna addressed the noble’s request, Celestia focused her attentions on Luna, a mental tally gradually rising.

“The Crown would be honoured to provide records for the library about the Nightmare incident in question,” said Luna.

‘Lie,’ thought Celestia.

“Of course, we understand that thou must think of thy own company first, but...”

‘Lie,’ mused Celestia.

“We do not wish to see war again, Ambassador. Is there not a compromise that we can come to?”

‘Lie,’ accused Celestia.

“Alas, my little pony, there is no room in the national budget for such an expense.”

‘Lie,’ agreed Celestia.

----

At the end of the session, Celestia stood up and stretched out her wings, the joints at the base giving a satisfying pop. She reviewed the mental count one more time.

‘438,’ Celestia thought, ‘438 lies told in one session of court.’ Celestia wasn’t stupid-ruling on truth and truth alone was, and never would be an effective form of government. Lying was a nessecary evil for her and her sister.

“Well, that went better than we expected it to,” said Luna, as she slid off the throne as the guards closed the doors to the throne room.

“So, do you think that you can handle it from here on your own?” asked Celestia.

“I believe that I can, sister. It feels...good to be helping with ruling once more.” Said Luna, a smile on her face.

‘439,’ thought Celestia.

3023873 438 9 is quite a few lies. Poor Luna has got to be exhausted after making that many decrees at all, let alone that many falsehoods. That's gotta be a rough day at court, whatever the circumstances. And that stress is evident in the end there, as Luna says she's ready to take it on on her own and Celestia ticks another one on her counter. Good job.

Here is where I put the story based on this prompt. While some people would of gone for trollestia I went for how keeping secrets could protect our loved ones
