Who here thinks that this would have been an interesting development for Diamond Tiara and one that's more fitting of her name?

Hasbro could have foreshadowed this back in Season 2 by making this a slight change to not only Diamonds' characterization but also her overall personality. That instead of her being just this all-too-tiresome rich brat bully archetype that turned out to have a "talent" for Leadership (which still makes no sense and doesn't at all connect with her name in the slightest), Diamond Tiara could instead be this arrogant posturing overachiever who had a knack for making jewelry that had potential for other diverse fields of crafting: Gem-Cutting, Mining, Glass-Cutting, Masonry, Stonecutting, Smithing, and Smelting. The reasoning behind this personality and why throughout Season 1 she hid herself to appear as an Earth Pony was due to racism she and other Crystal Ponies like her had faced while in Equestria; being treated as little more than Second-Class Citizens that were even lower than Earth Ponies on the totem pole. It would have been her facing against this discrimination in the past that had made her confrontational towards the Crusaders due to how tight-knit their group is as representatives of the Three Equestrian Tribes.

Diamond would go from this Bully trying to rub herself in the faces of others, to be this jealous hard-working mare that wants only to prove herself and her Tribe as more than what those in Equestria think; and it would also build more upon the Crystal Ponies by realistically showing that plenty of them were not within the Crystal Empire when Sombra sent it into the future along with the inevitable culture-clash and cultural scars that results afterwards for a group of displaced individuals trying to hold onto their culture while being forced to try assimilating into this other nation.

That's really genius right there, The Ohvist. :)

a "talent" for Leadership (which still makes no sense and doesn't at all connect with her name in the slightest)

You don't think that being named after a type of crown -- a symbol of hereditary leaders -- has anything to do with leadership?

The show established that the crystal ponies were an isolated population that were all caught up in Sombra's curse, but even if it were the case that some of them lived outside the bounds of the Crystal Empire among other ponies, why would unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies have racist attitudes toward crystal ponies? Once the Empire returned and Sombra was defeated, visitors to the north mixed quite happily with the crystal pony population. Nopony ever showed a single sign of disdain, discomfort, or hatred.

This wouldn't have worked in the series, and if I saw a story with this premise, I would demand the author put an AU tag on it.

Leadership by itself is seen as less of an actual talent and more of a fundamental quality of character. As shown in the series proper; anyone can become a leader in a given situation which is often supplemented by their particular talents that would make them an ideal candidate for the role. Having Leadership alone as a special talent would lend more into circular logic ("I am a Leader, therefore I am a Leader.") and to those who don't know of the individual would see them as a braggart narcissist without any actually useful skill to back up their claim of leadership with, and would perpetuate one's own downfall. Do you want a Leader whose known for being just a Leader because of her talent being that of a Leader, or a Leader that had been built up through their Skills and Efforts that they have honed and cultivated through hard work?

even if it were the case that some of them lived outside the bounds of the Crystal Empire among other ponies, why would unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies have racist attitudes toward crystal ponies?

Ponies by-nature have been seen as extremely gullible, and Princess Celestia has been seen as narrow-minded with a Tunnel Vision-like OBSESSION surrounding the themes of Prophecy, Destiny, and "The Chosen One"; part-and-parcel the reason why once long-standing allies of Equestria like Mount Aris, Thicket and Abyssinia had severed all ties with Equestria instead of trying to ask them for help against invaders. Not helping matters would be that unlike with the Three Tribes who have leaders of their individual communities; the Crystal Ponies would likely have no representation to their name due to Sombra wiping out the majority of The Imperial Family; and somehow Princess Cadence, (likely through a time-warp) wouldn't show up until close to the modern day. This would leave some deep-seated hatred for the misrepresented Crystal Ponies and would have returned to The Crystal Empire their ancestors talked about; washing their hooves of Equestria entirely and not wanting to have anything to do with them at best.

Whose to say there wasn't some silver-tongued Nobles in Canterlot that wanted to stir up trouble in a bid to re-establish Unicorn Supremacy of their dreams of Unicornia, by pitting blame on the Crystal Pony Refugees? It happened before in our own history; where Adolf Hitler pitted the blame of everything bad that happened to Germany on the Jews leading to the creation of the Nazi Party and culminating in World War II, and as shown in G5: Opaline managed to drive a wedge between the Tribes as a whole resulting in Twilight Sparkle: who over the course of the story went from a realist Heroine into nothing more than Celestia's personal puppet queen to sealing away all Magic in the world, instead of gathering her forces of many Kingdoms and Allies to take out this clearly obvious threat that was shown to be so unbelievably weak that even an untrained novice Alicorn like Sunny Starscout was able to defeat her.

I think Diamond Tiara would probably love it if she woke up as a Crystal Pony.
