During an evening performance at a private manor, Octavia is shown one of the rarest and finest instruments known to Equestria, a Stellar Variance cello. Just being in the same room as one is a dream come true for Octavia, but then she is given the chance to play it. It is an opportunity Octavia can't pass up, no matter the consequences.

Yet, the next morning Vinyl finds herself at the same private estate, searching for the friend and roommate who never came back.

To save her sister and her faithful student, Celestia herself must travel into the ancient tunnels beneath the ruined castle in the Everfree Forest. She, and the guards who accompany her, must face the dark, twisting corridors. Still, what was Luna and Twilight's purpose at the old castle? Why were they unable to return of their own accord?

The horrors of the catacombs have turned to distant memories for Celestia, Twilight, and Luna. Discord’s change of heart and Twilight’s coronation have helped to ease and erase the mental scars from that harrowing night. After a party to welcome the season of Nightmare Night, the library becomes the target of strange activity. Minor annoyances prelude greater events, and soon Twilight and Spike each take action to handle the situation in their own way. All the while, questions hang in the air. What lingers amongst the shelves? What watches from the corners? What stands just behind you only to disappear when you turn to look?

What is in the library, and what does it want?

Dusk Shine has had a crush on Elusive for a few months, unsure of where these feelings started. He had started doing research, trying to figure out these new feelings. Now that he's discovered what they are, he's started reading romance to figure out what to do next. Is he going to take that step and tell Elusive how he feels, or is he going to keep it all bottled up?

Ever since the Gala, Soarin has had a crush on Rainbow Dash, but more recently these feelings had developed into something more. It had been a week since Dash finally joined the Wonderbolts and her first disastrous show. He worked up the courage to tell Dash how he felt, only for her to reject him. These are the months following this event.
