Progress Report IV: Length · 11:26pm Oct 22nd, 2022
Hey all! Not a whole lot to report this time, so this one will be pretty brief.
Chapter 3 is coming along nicely. It should be ready to be proofread by sometime tomorrow, and with any luck it'll be ready to go on Monday. So far, the story's been a little slow going, but things are going to start escalating very soon.
I've been hesitant to talk about the length of the story as I don't want to commit myself to any amount of chapters or words. It'll be done when it's done. Even though I have an outline, the number of chapters planned has changed as I've been writing. So I can't really say how many chapters there will be yet. If I had to guess, I'd say around 20, but I put heavy emphasis on guess.
The story is split into two acts. Act one is pretty much entirely done being outlined, but act two is only halfway finished. This isn't because I'm still planning things – I know everything I want to happen in act two – but I haven't written it down yet because I'm waiting until I'm about halfway through actually writing act one. Once the foundational parts of the story have been laid, that's when I'll finish the outline so everything can be tied neatly together at the end. At least, that's the plan. But because I'm me, plans are always tentative and subject to change!
