Ancient relics (I never forgot) · 11:51am Oct 18th, 2022
So the other day, I got a comment on Diamond Eyes. You might not think this an extraordinary occurrence (and you'd be right, inherently), but this comment drew my attention to the fact that some art I had linked in the Author's Notes had a broken link, and that they would like to see it if I could find it. The link to the artist was broken too (they formerly went as _Vidz_).
So I went looking, because in my mind's eye I can still remember exactly what it looked like, even though it's been about seven years—hol' up wait what
seven years
I digress
Anyway
I then spent the next 40 or so minutes going though every single DM I had ever sent, deleted, or received. Then I realised I should stop being an idiot and refine my search to the time period of August to April 2015 (the story was released in May that year). I found nothing, which baffled me. Surely it would show up somewhere?
I widened my search from personal messages to group forum posts. Fortunately I'm "only" in about 100 groups, and I narrowed it down logically to those related to art or Snowdrop. This gave me 4 groups. I eventually found this forum post.
Alas, the image is broken there too, and even the helpful sauce I linked led to a broken deviantArt page. I tried using the Wayback Machine and... nothing. That particular page was never archived, potentially because it was never published on dA and was just a private thing the artist shared with me.
So that was a bummer. But then suddenly a thought
What if I could find and restore other broken links?
Fillies and Gentlecolts, I present to you, many/most of you for the first time, the long-lost links to many of the inspirations for my stories, all by the same artist, the legendary, the mythical, Chris Wöhrer aka CWInsomnia
One half of the songs which inspired The Equestria Games: Flight of the Pegasi: the aptly-named Flight of the Pegasi
And the other half: Under Your Wings
The song which, along with the season 4 finale, inspired The Ultimate Alicorn: Corruption of a Desperate Mare (I actually didn't need to use the Wayback Machine for this one, as it was a surprisingly recent upload from an archive channel; cheers, Brony Fan Music Archive!)
And finally, one I thought truly was lost forever on account of it being a private commission for myself for a story that I myself took down years ago: The Pendant and the Amulet
Seriously, these are all bangers, and it really took me back to my days of listening to the likes of Radiarc, Prince Whateverer, The L-Train, Carbon Maestro, Night Breeze, Gatopaint, Pinkie Guy, etc while I both read and wrote.
Now if anypony could kindly lead this crystal pony to the water that is the entire lost back-catalogue of Canapplejack, so I may drink my fill and then some, I await your messages.
ooh, wow! :O I remember Chris Wöhrer, I had no idea all his stuff was gone!
I think I actually remember that Snowdrop and gorgon image, but I couldn't find it either.
I don't know about canapplejack's entire back catalogue, but there are a few more songs archived on Pony.fm: https://pony.fm/canapplejack/content

Yeah it has been for a while. I remember his Elements of Disharmony series of songs being what got me into his stuff, and then I heard Flight of the Pegasi and dove right into fandom music.
Canapplejack fell into a similar category; I found their heavy yet melodic djent just so emotionally charged, and for almost a year I drove around doing pizza deliveries with a burned cd in my car full of just their songs.
Looks like 5693171 has found exactly what I was looking for! This is more or less everything they wrote before wiping much of it and vanishing. Some of my personal faves were Divinity, Ascension, Hopeless Battles, and Dreamwatcher. Thank you so much!
