Many years ago, on my very first day on Earth, I was born. Two decades later I celebrated my twentieth birthday, and then I had a glass of water.

Return Snippet II: Just in the Nikki of Time

And we're back with another snippet! This time it's much older, all the way from version 0.5 of the story - back when I tried starting it out from the moment of Lapis' arrival to Equestria, instead of Twilight's arrival to Ponyville. This was the first version of Nikki's entrance to the story, as well as the first mention of Hot Cocoa, the waitress (who I'd forgotten was a unicorn in the first

    Return Snippet I: RD.1.1

This is the opening scene of an unfinished and scrapped chapter, which picks up pretty much exactly where I left off over a year ago. I decided to toss this chapter in favor of a time skip, but see no reason to let the scene go completely to waste.

    Where I've Been

This is an announcement. I formatted it like a snippet. I don't know why.

In the middle of a darkened room, a griffon walked onto a stage.

Scrap Bin 2: An Exhibit of Taxidermied Angst

Another batch of excerpts from my scrap bin, but this time, it's three of them at once. Next chapter should be coming by this weekend, if not sooner - hopefully this'll provide some insight into what I'm trying to trim out!

So first off, hey, guess who still isn’t dead? And guess whose story isn’t dead, either - just some stuff in the way.

Did you know that when you pick up your laptop, and it makes a noise like a maraca, that that’s usually a bad thing? Because it turns out, it is! My laptop’s motherboard was completely bricked by a loose screw, and I may or may not be in the process of questionably interpreting a warranty to get said motherboard - or laptop - replaced.

Luckily, I have a backup laptop! And because of that, I was able not only to finish writing the chapter I was working on, but also to get the majority of a second new chapter typed out and ready to roll. I was going to upload both of them today, and see if I could make an evening out of it, and it was gonna be a whole thing.

And then gravity happened.

Yeah.

My backup laptop is still alive, as is the story’s data. The laptop’s Wi-Fi adaptor, however, is very much dead. I am making this post via mobile. Before anyone suggests using an Ethernet cable, my dorm room doesn’t have a jack for it, and I’m unsure that my laptop has one, either.

So! We’re looking at an upcoming upload date of either next Thursday-ish. You can look forward to the Official First Interaction with Princess Luna getting posted on one of those dates. I was going to be subtle about that and post like a teaser picture or something, but it turns out fimfiction doesn’t like Imgur links, so here we are.

Anyway, yeah. That’s what’s been happening. See you when my laptop gets fixed, take care, and watch out for gravity!

Thanks for the update. Here's hoping no data was lost for good.

I don't know what Isaac Newton was thinking when he invented gravity, that shit is only good for breaking phones. :raritydespair:

I’m happy to hear you’re ok for the most part. I love your story but please don’t stress about updating, unless it’s something you enjoy ok? Hope your classes are going well!

Jesus. Where are you attending college, Oxford University in the year 1700?

Sorry about your laptops, I hope your warranty covers the damage. Good luck!

Sad to hear about what's going on with both your laptops. And don't worry too much about trying to get us new chapters, I'd say it's worth the wait.

Luckily, there’s absolutely zero chance of that. The main files are kept on an external thumb drive (and lest any of you think I’m trusting a thumb drive with anything, the backups are squirreled away in the cloud, just in case.)

5688160
And what’s worse, it keeps us from doing cool stuff like ascending a whole flight of stairs with one jump, or using trampolines to check whether there’s a demon alicorn on the moon… :fluttercry:

5688161
No worries, I’m doing good. Just annoyed that I won’t get to drop these chapters as soon as I’d hoped.

I would defend the honor of this institute… but considering the ridiculous concentrations of Actual Fucking Lead we’ve been finding in the drinking water, any pride we may possess is no longer worth defending.

It should be covered, I’ve got the tech support guy’s word on it. Granted, that was typed word, inside an email that I no longer possess the WiFi to access, but that still counts, right?
Still, I have been missing the ear-piercing shriek of its left fan. It always filled me with such a rush of emotion, especially whenever Windows decided to update at 3 AM.

Thanks, that’s a real relief to hear. Amberhoof was one I kind of rushed, and I’m still not 100% happy with it - the discussion between Cochineal and Firefly is still in editing, btw. Rest assured that quality over quantity is my second highest priority, and putting both before vanity is first!

Hope everything works out, maybe call Lapis to fix it

Just fyi, there do exist USB wifi adapters, and they aren't terrible. I think you can get one on Amazon, or your store of choice, for a couple dozen dollars.

Wow man! When did you decide to piss off Murphy that he decided to make your life "INTERESTING"?

They have cheap wifi adapters on amazon for less than $15, if you go to walmart you can ask about their return policy and if you can return it if its the wrong one, if they say they'll take it back with open packaging you can order from amazon and then purchase what you need from Walmart, and then return it when the amazon one arrives. Not saying you have to, just what I've done myself when I had a similar issue.

I think regular USB phone chargers are capable of transferring files between a computer and mobile device. You could probably download stuff from your computer via USB charging cable and upload from a phone.

Writer: Ah what a nice day, I ho-

Gravity: I'm gonna end this man's whole career!

I have exactly the same problem with my laptop. It sounds like a goddamn washing machine. I had the fans replaced twice already and it didn't help at all, just wasted my time and money! Who the hell builds laptops like that? And why?! WHY?! :twilightangry2:

Unless you have an iPhone, then you need iTunes.

5688249
Are you telling me Apple needs you to have iTunes so that you can transfer data between your PC and Phone even if you use a cable? Or does cable just straight up not work on iPhones?

5688277
You need iTunes to use with a cable at all, without you ha e to use the cloud. Unless of course you have a Mac, then the cable works.

As you can probably guess, I'm an android enjoyer personally, never quite liked all the apple imposed restrictions.

Gravity is a bitch.
