Premature announcements are just part of my brand · 10:28pm Aug 17th, 2022
So I've talked before about how I'm halfway done with Life in Equestria, but struggling to write the second half. I think I've figured that out a little. This is also a premature new story announcement, for a WWB novel called "Just a Pony".
I reread Life in Equestria a while ago, and it's actually really good! It hits the points I wanted to hit and creates the intertwined story I wanted to make. But then I still couldn't get myself to work on Act II, and reading the outline, Act II is much weaker than Act I.
So like, fix it, yeah? But in trying to figure out how to fix it, I realized that one character in particular didn't deserve to be a side character, her story really needed to be in the spotlight. There's just too much there, I was doing her a major disservice. So back to the drawing board with her, that was the biggest problem and I was going o fix it!
And the solution I came up with was the obvious one, but not the easy one: Give her a full novel. She needed breathing room, so give it to her. And now I'm working on the outline of "Just a Pony", the WWB story that never even crossed my mind. As you can maybe guess, the main character here is Coloratura, and she was never meant to be a major character in WWB. But then, well, I'm scrapping the plan anyway, aren't I? That was what I decided on, my plan I've been building towards was not something I wanted for this series, so like, kill it and loot its corpse for good ideas. And in the process, maybe give Rara her own story, I guess??
"Just a Pony" (which is, incidentally, only a working title) will follow Rara from Camp Friendship to her time as a starving artist in the underground scene to er discovery and time spent as The Countess persona to finally throwing off the mantle and taking control of her life. And none of this is beholden to The Mane Attraction, since that's not WWB canon anyway. Not that I dislike that episode (it's a good one for sure), but it means that while a lot of familiar faces will pop up, there will be a lot of differences to make this really a WWB story.
I'm excited for this story. Been a while since I was truly excited for a pony story, but I am for this one. This does mean my previous premature announcement of getting Life in Equestria ready by the end of the year is simply not happening, this will take precedence (it ends before LiE anyway, so that's also a good reason). But I'm excited, and I really hope I can bring you something before too long!
(Incidentally, none of the problems talked about in my prior blog post are solved, and my motivation may fuck off at any moment, but for now I'm too excited to not talk about this)

Oh, longer than that for sure. I'll be extremely surprised if Just a Pony is ready by then, and Life in Equestria will only be worked on after that one's finished.
