Question of the Week #66 · 2:27am Aug 10th, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome back to the question of the week. It's kind of a surprise that we made it to 66 of these. Kind of surprising that you all still tolerate me. :rainbowlaugh:

Last week, I brought up a subject of a cyberpunk/Egyptian setting and posted a couple blogs. For example: Question of the Week #65 and Neo Somnambula Factions. So this week, I thought we might try to flesh things out a bit more and see what we come up.

Now if you were living in the city of Neo Somnambula, a city surrounded by desert and where a decent portion of the city worship Sunset Shimmer as a sun god, what so of Egyptian/cyberpunk elements would you expect to see?

While I do have some ideas, I want to make sure that I can capture elements of both those genres/styles and so I wanted to ask and see how I might be able to implement those ideas into the story/setting.

Thank you all so much for coming. May you all have a great day and stay safe.

I'd answer but i have no idea what any of that is

Sunshades that are all automatic, white.
And maybe bee gangs because bees are important.

Well, you absolutely must have clockwork engines in multiple places: transportation, calculation assistants, armed forces, thieves, cybernetic body and/or mind extensions, etc.

All the cool kids have cats to stroke menacingly. Because Bast.

weapon shaped like key of life, lots of shade and cover, crowded bazaars where you can buy anything from spices to illegal weapons

5678783 Yeah, that's pretty helpful. I especially like the idea of an open air bazaar. What sort of blackmarket items might a shady salesman have up for offer? Illegal weapons, outlawed cybernetic augmentation, forbidden scrolls, perhaps some illicit substance (not sure what it would be, but it could be interesting).

5678733 That is definitely a thought. Did you know that in ancient Egypt, cats were considered to be divine creatures and that the punishment for killing one was death? Not sure how I'd work that into the setting, but it could be fun to explore.

5678701 Beegangs?

5678703 I'm a bit confused how the clockwork would fit with it (usually when I think clockwork, I think steampunk), would you care to elaborate?

5678697 Any of what?

“Pay up, or we’ll sting ya!”

The definition of Cyberpunk is a combination of high tech and lowlife/decay. Functional clockwork machines combine these very well.

Gears and scavenged parts come from the need to repurpose old to make the new because the shiny full-tech stuff is unaffordable to all but the elites. The AI needed to make the creations come to life and is affordable as the single high-tech component.

Did you know that in ancient Egypt, cats were considered to be divine creatures and that the punishment for killing one was death?

That was more or less the whole joke.
