Only took me a few months of on and off reading to finally get through all of Last and First Men. It is now my favorite book of all time. It has (as I mentioned in my last blog (though I doubt many have seen it) ) fundamentally changed the way I write. The book is simply wonderful and completely deserves its place in the hall of Science-Fiction Masterworks. It's a story that spans 2 billion years
I've been reading Last and First Men and can easily say that it is by far the best book I've ever read. The way it is written hit a chord with me, I'm certain it has even changed the way I write. It has told me that I don't have to write a story about one person or a group, this I knew already, but beyond that I can write very generally about events. Did you know that Dr. Von Braun had designed a manned mission to Mars as early as 1952? From what I understand the math still adds up, the mission would've worked. It would've been ridiculously expensive and take way too long to construct in orbit but it would've worked... a lot better than NASA's supposed planned Mars mission schedule.
