Can Zipp sing? · 5:16am Jun 22nd, 2022

Zipp is the only one in the Mane 5 (plus Sprout) who didn’t sing at all thus far.

Even in Make Your Mark where Zipp was the central character, she didn’t get her own song while her sister did. In Izzy’s Fit Right In, I recall Zipp dancing but never singing (correct me if I’m wrong). By contrast, in G4 all the Mane 6 sang together right from the get go (see: At the Gala, Winter Wrap Up). Main characters in pony shows sing. That’s just what they do. Zipp seems to be the exception.

It has nothing to do with Zipp’s voice actress; many MLP characters like Twilight and Rarity have separate singing voice actresses. It must be something to do with Zipp’s character.

Which brings us back to the question: I wonder why Zipp doesn’t sing. I for one think it’s intentional, and hope it will be addressed in the future.

What are your theories?

Well, I think she said a line in the soundtrack version of “Fit Right In” but I guess that doesn’t really count.

I feel like she doesn’t like to sing, In “Make Your Mark” she said she doesn’t like karaoke so I assume she doesn’t like singing either.

I don't think that Liza Koshy is a trained singer.

Maybe she doesn't like singing.

In "Make Your Mark" it show that Zipp doesn't like Karaoke which mean Zipp is not a big fan of singing

While that may be true, it's not an issue of the voice actress's abilities. As I mentioned in the blog post, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Twilight, Sprout, etc. all have separate voice actors for their singing voice.

Which begs the question...why...?

Maybe it's just me, but I think one of Zipp princess lessons cause her to sing a lot, which cause Zipp to lose interest in singing since to Zipp. Singing may bring back some bad memories of her sitting in one place singing the same notes for hours with no end

Sorry, didn't spot that. You raise a good point; it's entirely possible it's a plot point, especially since G5 seems to be a world where characters communicate extensively by song.

No, but a tuna can.

ha

Bar the logistical reason why she doesn't sing in the movie (runtimes are harsh, and I actually really enjoyed the full soundtrack version of "Fit Right In"), I'm inclined to think it might be either an insecurity for her or something she feels isn't really her style. Or better yet, she thinks it's better suited for Pipp, given some of her dialogue in TYT and MYM.
